Our passion for the seas around the West coast of Ireland stem from generations of fishing and seafaring within our family backgrounds. To say the sea is in our blood is probably the best way to describe our love of the Atlantic ocean that rolls into Galway Bay. The West of Ireland is defined by the sea and the dramatic coastlines and beautiful islands it has carved out here. If you wish to understand the nature of the West of Ireland you need to get out on the water.

Nice article in The Galway Advertiser on the annual Cong - Galway Sailing Race ⚓️
The storied Cong to Galway Race, renowned as the oldest inland sailing competition in Europe (1882 ), is set to make its annual return this Saturday August 31, starting from the picturesque Lisloughrey Pier near Ashford Castle.
Some lovely words from Niamh. She who was out with us and her family for a tour recently. Thanks for the lovely review Niamh 💙
“Just wanted to get in touch to say thank you for organising the tour earlier today for us. We were very well looked after and had a brilliant time on our tour.
Such a fab way to spend an hour in Galway, will definitely be recommending to friends family and beyond.
Hope you have a lovely weekend”
All the best
Niamh
Tomorrow Friday August 23rd, Galway City Fire Station's full-time and retained firefighters will embark on a very special charity project.
The Firefighters will row a traditional Irish currach that they have spent the last six months building from scratch. This project is entirely voluntary with firefighters dedicating their own time to make this happen.
Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. from the slipway at the University of Galway Playing Fields in Dangan, three firefighters (from each of the station’s six crews) will take turns rowing the currach along a 3 km stretch of the River Corrib.
After each 6km return leg, the crews will rotate aiming to cover a total of 46 km—the equivalent distance from Inis Oírr to the Claddagh! The row will take approximately 6-8 hours, depending on conditions.
The currach was designed and built by firefighters with deep roots in fishing and carpentry. Since its completion, the crews have been training hard for this challenging row. The Oliver family, with a long seafaring tradition in the Claddagh, will provide safety and support throughout the event. Two of the Olivers are also full-time firefighters.
The charity partner for this event is Cancer Care West, a cause close to the hearts of the firefighters. Cancer has touched many in the service, including the loss of a colleague nine years ago and the wife of a firefighter two years ago. This row, wholeheartedly, is to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the vital services Cancer Care West provide.
Earlier this week some of the firefighters taking part spoke with John Morley on Galway Talks (Galway Bay FM). Last weekend, they showcased the currach and held a bucket collection on Shop Street.
So far, they've raised approximately €14,500 through an iDonate page and street collections. As this event approaches tomorrow, they’re hoping for even more support.
Personnel from Galway Fire and Rescue Service will be present throughout the event.
Everyone is welcome to come along, show their support, and learn more about this great project from the firefighters themselves.

Always a joy to meet everyone and have some fun out on the water. This year we had an exhibition tent with Galway Ho**er Sailing Club and it was amazing to realise all the interest that still is in the boats and their heritage.
