☘️February 29th is a special day that comes only once every four years! Did you know the Irish history and traditions associated with this day?

According to ancient Irish tradition, a woman has the right to propose marriage to a man specifically in a Leap Year. Although, of course, nothing stops a woman from proposing on any other day. But in Ireland, this right was limited to just one day!

The history of these traditions dates back to the 5th century when Saint Brigid complained to Saint Patrick that women had to wait too long for proposals from men. Patrick then established that women could make proposals only in February during a Leap Year. If a man refused the proposal, he had to pay a fine.

Thank goodness we’re living in the 21st century, where we can pop the question any day of the year! Ireland is the ideal spot for it. Bring your sweetheart to these breathtaking places to kick off a new chapter in your love story 💚
