🤫 we’ve a little secret …

We’ll be hosting a pop up music event tomorrow at lunchtime (1.30pm) at the Claddagh Basin with the wonderful folk group Rón.

Rón are a folk group of four based in Galway, comprising of two fiddles and two guitars with vocals. They perform both contemporary and old Irish folk songs with traditional Irish tunes. They first performed together as a musical group on one of the traditional Galway Ho**er Boats in Galway Bay. This inspired them to be called Rón, the Irish word for Seal.

This event is being funded through the Galway City Council Local Live Performance Scheme.

The event is being held in the open but we would ask anyone who pops by to please adhere to current Covid guidelines and stay safe.

On Monday 13th November 1876, a ho**er, the St Patrick that set out from the Claddagh to Slyne Head was carried out 150 miles out into the Atlantic by a tremendous storm 😮.

Four days later, three survivors were rescued by a passing Norwegian vessel and taken to America.

Why is it so warm & sunny?🤔

The jet stream has been displaced to the far north of Ireland, drawing in warm air & allowing high pressure to "get stuck" bringing us this settled and sunny weather.

Temperatures today could reach 30°C or higher in a few places 🌡📈

Eight bells. Legend. ❤️

We are sad to report that the former editor of Sailing Today, John Goode, has died after a short illness. The marine industry and the sailing world has lost a great champion. Countless sailors benefitted from John’s instruction afloat, while countless readers of Sailing Today benefitted from his truly brilliant articles on seamanship and pilotage. Many of us still use his ‘cockpit plotter’ which went out free with Sailing Today in his time as editor. The magazine’s success was driven, as was every project John became involved with, by his tremendous energy and personal commitment, allied to a genuine desire to help people become better sailors.
We will carry a tribute to John in the next issue of Sailing Today with Yachts & Yachting. Tonight our thoughts are with John’s family, and we raise a glass, or two, to one of sailing’s greatest campaigners and characters. Cheers John.
