What an amazing time in this weekend doing some 2024 tour research.

Fabulous sharing plates at Hilliards followed by an evening with Jack Patrick Healy at the Killarney Grand piano bar. It’s difficult to express quite how fabulous everything was 🥂🎉

Looking for a late breakfast venue on Saturday morning, we stumbled across the brunch menu at the Arbutus Hotel Killarney served until 3pm, wonderful service, excellent quality and super reasonable.

did not disappoint on a wet February evening - definitely granted the Kerry Tour Guides stamp of approval👏👏👏

On this the twelfth and final day of Christmas, Nollaig na mBan, traditional roles were supposed to be reversed in the home: men did the women’s work, while women rested and gathered together informally - as a reward for their hard work over the Christmas season.

To celebrate 'Women's Christmas' we remember a remarkable lady, the 'Nun of Kenmare' - Sr Francis Clare (Margaret Anna Cusack), who played a part in 's history.

She joined the Poor Clare Order at Newry, Co Down and came with Abbess O’Hagan and her nuns to Kenmare to open a Poor Clare Convent in 1861.

As a writer, she founded Kenmare Publications which produced nearly 50 of her works on a broad range of subjects, such as history, religion and social commentaries. ‘Womans’ Work in Modern Society’ (1874) established Sr Francis Clare as a pioneer of Women’s Rights. Pictured are some her works, on display in the Heritage Centre.

The proceeds of her publications came back to the Famine Relief Fund in Kenmare, which she founded in 1879.

So we toast our incredible women of times past, present and future!

The changing face of Roughty Bridge, An Ruachtach, Gortalinny .

Built originally in the 1780s and replaced with the current bridge in1839, with the Roughty River running below. Built with locally sourced limestone and because of its narrow width it features a pair of curved refuges where pedestrians step in to avoid passing traffic.

, very important in the Irish calendar, dates back to . The day marks the coming of summer and was celebrated in a festival called Lá Bealtaine and has many customs and traditions.

On the eve of yellow flowers, such as buttercups, marigolds, and primroses (or tulips!) were gathered and spread around the outside of each home. It was thought these flowers would bring luck to the household and keep from entering the home.

Cailleachs, old women or hags, are considered bad deity’s or witches and would go from home to home to steal butter or milk on the morning of . Children would often scatter the flowers outside their neighbour’s homes as a sign of goodwill
So don't forget to get out this evening and spread the flowers 🌼
