Our Story

Race & Stay™ was originally formed in 2012 in association with The Curragh Racecourse to deliver a complete Hotel, Transport and Racing package to the many National and International guests wanting to come racing in Ireland. Starting with small numbers of guests we quickly grew and we are now the Largest and the Premier Horse Racing Tour Company in Ireland, and the Only Approved Guest M

anagement Partner for many Irish Racecourses looking after over 6,000 happy guests each year. These are exciting times for us, 10 years in business now and 2022 and beyond look very bright with already a near full order book for some events. We have recruited more staff and strengthened our management team, the original staff and management are all still here, they, along with a few new additions will enhance what we do and help us deliver the best guest service possible into the future.

We are all sad at Race and Stay to hear of the untimely passing of one of racing's great penmen. Alastair Down. A scribe much respected by the racing community and a long time friend of many he will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and work colleagues at The Racing Post at this very sad time.

The best 2 days racing in the North of Ireland takes centre stage here today and tomorrow. Down Royal has long been a happy hunting ground for Gordon Elliott Racing and today he sends out some of the bigger guns. Jack Kennedy may be out injured but Sam Ewing is a more than capeable replacement an I can see him firing in a few winners this afternoon.

Today - 12:25 Wingmen & The Yellow Clay
Today - 1:00 Kelly's Birr
Today - 1:30 Speculatrix
Today - 2:05 King Of Kingsfield & Brighterdaysahead
Today - 2:40 Calico & Someone's Wish
Today - 3:15 Big Stage, Gr**go D'aubrelle & Firefox
Today - 3:50 Kalypso'chance & Jacob's Ladder

A pretty powerful team with a few of them good prospects for better races later in the season. The Mullins team run a few but I am sure they are deeply concentrating on the Melbourne Cup with VAUBAN and ABSURDE as a priority just now and this may be the best day Gordon has had for some time.

The Breeders Cup signifies for me the end of the flat season and both Charlie Appleby and AIdan O'Brien have sent a few over to Der Mar. Hopefully they'll come back richer than they left.
I cant wait to see what happens tomorrow night when the much talked about, and very enigmatic, CITY OF TROY takes on a good home field in the Classic, that should be one of the races of the season. As far as tonight goes LAKE VICTORIA has been backed almost to the exclusion of anything else and after two top class Group 1 wins over here she may be the Coolmore Stud and Ballydoyle contingents best chance this evening.

Down Royal for the jumps, Breeders Cup for the flat and the Melbourne Cup just for the hell of it, what a few days of racing we have coming up. Good luck all, run well and come home safe and sound.

Attention is moving swiftly to the upcoming jumps season both in the UK and Ireland now with a couple of top meetings taking place this weekend. Cheltenham Racecourse stages some good contests with a number of Irish trainers sending a team over. Notably Gavin Cromwell who has a large number of entrants over the weekend. In fact he should have a good time of it with many fancied horses making the journey over the Irish Sea. Not only that but Gavin is also launching a big assault on Galway this weekend too. He'll be the trainer to follow there as well.

The one horse I'd love to see win this weekend is VANILLIER (pictured below) former Grand National second, and a previous winner on the New Course at Cheltenham he is a real star. We had the pleasure earlier this year watching him loose school at Gavin's stables and he is a very impressive jumper and fast too. He may be ready at a great price today but I'm sure his longer term target is the Grand National again.

Strangely enough Willie Mullins has only 1 entrant at Cheltenham. FINE MARGIN takes his chance in the very competitive 1:45 race tomorrow. He also has few runners at Galway too (for the size of his string) - Perhaps his full attention is drawn to the Melbourne Cup where VAUBAN and ABSURDE again take their chances.

So there it is folks, get on Gavin, back all he runs (maybe each way) and I'm sure you'll come out with a few euros profit this weekend.

Another great day's racing at the Curragh this afternoon. Following on from yesterday's bumper prize money today continues the trend with the ultra valuable Irish Cambridgeshire up for grabs. All the talk here is about NURBURGRING and THE EURPHRATES. Two classy individuals that have outstanding chances on ratings today.

The first three races should go the way of Aidan O'Brien and I suspect there will be many multiple bets wagered on those short price favourites. I personally would prefer a sporting each way punt on HIS MAJESTY at odds of 14/1 or better this morning in the competitive 3:15 race. MY MATE ALFIE is a worthy favorite here and may well win but it should be a good race.

I'll also be interested to wait and watch the last race today with the very well bred Dubawi C**t JOHN STEINBECK making his seasonal bow. You rarely see Ryan Moore racing in the last at the Curragh so that may be a tip in itself. Other than that just enjoy the classy races on offer at the home of Irish flat racing.

Have a good day all...

As the flat season starts to wind down, with the end of year championships still to go, our minds are switching somewhat to the upcoming jumps season here in Ireland with a huge number of last seasons novices and juveniles set to star in our upcoming Winter Festival season.

Navan Racecourse is the first festival this year with some top class racing on November 16th & 17th. Punchestown follows swiftly on 23rd & 24th November and then Fairyhouse Racecourse opens its doors on the 30th November and 1st December for some more top class action.

Three great value weekends to enjoy before the traditional Christmas Festival takes place at Leopardstown Racecourse from the 26th - 29th December If you are serious about Jump Racing do not miss your chance to see the new kids on the block as well as some returning established jump race stars.

A big thanks to Horse Racing Ireland for inviting me to Navan Racecourse for the launch of the Navan Racing Festival yesterday. Clodagh Fleming, Paul Dermody, Vicki Donlon and Louise O'Regan. An excellent event, well organised and fun too.

Hopefully we will see you there on November 16th & 17th this year for some top class racing, craic and more..

Not long now until we welcome a large number of guests to The 2024 Irish Champions Festival. A very unique event with racing at Leopardstown on Saturday and The Curragh on Sunday. Looking at the domestic and International entries this year it is gearing up to be the best flat racing festival in Ireland. Couple this with a morning at master trainer Gavin Cromwell's stable and the afternoon at the famous Laytown races on Monday and a much looked forward to long weekend is on the cards.

The Curragh stages what will amount to two disappointing Group 2 races tomorrow in as much as they have so few entries with Aidan O'Brien Hotpots in each. It is no surprize to see that Ryan Moore has shunned York for the Curragh as it should be a turn up and collect trip for him and Ballydoyle.

This maybe shows the lack of top class 2yo C**ts and Fillies outside of Aidan's Stable, save perhaps from the odd one from Jessie Harringtons yard, but it must be said that this is a worrying trend. One wonders where this will lead and if the Ballydoyle domination of graded races in Ireland and the UK will continue. Racing needs bigger competition at this level and more needs to be done to attract the overseas runners to compete for all graded contests otherwise increased prize money and prestige will only go one way.

That is not a healthy position for Irish Racecourses, owners, trainers or Breeders. A big re-think is required by the top brass methinks...

A fabulous few days racing takes place at York this week, starting today with a top class card with plenty of Irish interest.

Traditionally a battle between Godolphin, Coolmore and Juddmonte for the big prizes there are some classy sorts on show today, not least THE LION IN WINTER and RULING COURT, in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes, both impressive first time out winners.

Aidan O'Brien throws three at the Group 2 Great Voltiger stakes and LOS ANGELES looks the pick. The Juddmonte International at 3:35 today can be classed as one of the best races this season with the enigma that is CITY OF TROY looking the form pick for Ireland.

Needless to say the big field handicaps are a minefield but Yorkshire trainers do very well in these.

For the 1800+ staff working the festival this week, stay safe and well, have a good time and thank you for the service you give to racing. York could not do it without you. To all the owners, trainers and equine staff, the best of luck, to all the equine stars on show at every level run well and come home safe.

What a fabulous week at the Galway Festival. The racing was great, the hospitality mighty and the Hotels and transport companies all played their part in giving our guests the best time possible for the week. Well done Michael, Sinead and all the team at Galway Races, you played a blinder.

Very sad news for all race fans:

Aidan O'Brien has described Istabraq as an "almost mystical character" for the legacy he left after one of modern jump racing's most iconic equine superstars died at JP McManus's Martinstown home at 32 years of age.

The hugely popular ex-Flat horse was trained by O'Brien to win three Champion Hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival between 1998 and 2000, having also won the old Royal Sun Alliance Novices' Hurdle there in 1997. read more: https://www.racingpost.com/news/ireland/istabraq-legendary-three-time-champion-hurdle-hero-dies-aged-32-at5ay4g1WUmg/

Two high class races kick off a good days racing at the Curragh today with several nicely bred types taking their chance. Ger Lyons may hold the key to both of them but they are good races to watch for future stars. Indeed Ger has a few good chances today and with his string in fine form may collect some nice prize money.

The Minstrel stakes is the big race today where 3 year olds taking on older horses is always a doubtful procedure but Breeders Cup Juvenile second MOUNTAIN BEAR may have too much potential for the likely favorites Mutasarref and Lord Massusus with the weight for age allowance. An interesting race nonetheless.

Keep a watchful eye on ENFRANCHISE in the 4:20 today, running over a trip short of her best and in a classy race she is surely being aimed at a decent race at Galway next week, you have been told.

A good day to enjoy in County Kildare.

Irish Oaks Day today at the Curragh with rain forecast on probably good to yielding ground. The Oaks itself looks an average type of renewal with no real "superstars" entered but a competitive and enjoyable race nonetheless.

There will never be a more fitting winner of a race than HEAVENLY POWER in the David Power Memorial Stakes at 2:35pm today. One of the founders of what we know as Paddy Power Bookmakers, and a true gentleman of the betting ring, and in life, David was an Irish Racing legend. Heavenly Power, running today in the colours of Sabina, his wife, and trained by long term friend, Eddie Lynam I for one will be cheering him on today. We will all miss him. May David rest in peace.

The rest of the Curragh card looks very tricky and the possible change in going as the rain softens the turf may bring a few into the equation especially in the competitive handicap races.

Royal Ascot starts tomorrow and the mini Irish equine invasion may pay dividends, not so much on the first two days but more so later in the week. The usual suspects have sent horses over with the addition of a few new Irish Trainers chancing their luck in one of the many races. Can Auguste Rodin return to form again, (The market thinks he can), will Kyprios prove to be the ultimate stayer, can Willie Mullins plot a few handicaps over the week. These and other questions will be answered soon. I for one cannot wait !!

Have a great week and come home safe all.

I'm going to enjoy a weekend of racing at Punchestown with guests to look after this Saturday and Sunday. This is a weekend where the Conditionals and Amateurs take centre stage and a good chance for them to showcase their skills in the absence of the top jocks.

Mike O'Connor, Oakley Brown, Kieran Callaghan, Conor Smithers and more will be in big demand over the next two days and I'm sure that, along with Aine O'Connor, Finny Maguire and Derek O'Connor they will boot in a few winners too.

Not too shabby prize money on offer this weekend too. So expect a few future top equine performers to shine as well.

Looking forward to it.

The evening fixtures start in earnest in Ireland this week with both Limerick (jumps) and Fairyhouse Racecourse (flat) staging interesting cards this evening.

At Limerick on good to firm going (possibly firm) I wouldn't expect too many future superstars to race today but one who has a big potential is JUST FOR LOVE, Paul Townend's first ride back from his break and also his only ride of the night.

At Fairyhouse Racecourse a number of big field handicaps are minefields and there are plenty with chances in all of them. The only bright spot is the Maiden at 7:30 where NATIONAL LADY runs for Ger Lyons. Unusually there is no Aidan O'Brien representative in this but Dermot Weld may have a say too with once raced BLUE POPPY. on known trainer and horse form it should be between them.

With live music after racing at both courses I'm sure they will be well attended. Lets hope the sun shines for the punters.
