This striking sculpture was crafted by John Behan and commemorates the millions who perished during the Great Irish Famine of 1845 – 52.

It depicts a “coffin ship” with skeleton bodies in the rigging. Coffin ships was a term used to describe the horrendously overcrowded boats which left our shores with emigrants fleeing the famine.

You never know who or what you will encounter on our tours.

This was a delight to meet a pack of Irish Wolfhounds, the tallest dog breed in the world standing at 7ft on their hind legs.

The first written history goes back to 391, but the wolfhounds maybe go back further, probably 2000 years and beyond.

The wolfhound is intertwined with Irish history and today you will find them as residents in many castle hotels. They are calm and friendly dogs and make great pets.
