Curracloe Strand | County Wexford

The sand on my feet in Curracloe

There’s no shortage of beautiful beaches in Ireland. The country is blessed with a 1,448 km coastline. But the only thing- they are significantly colder than the beaches you'd find in Southern Europe. Sad to say that Irish beaches are colder most of the months and our summer is short and can be the wettest too.

Is there anywhere more beautiful than Curracloe? We’re glad we spent our staycation in Wexford during the summer. The timing was just right! We happened to enjoy the sun to our heart’s content. A blue flag beach status stretching to seven miles of fine light-brown sands, sprawling dunes, and turquoise water.
Curracloe is ideal for nature walks and camping. Every morning we enjoyed the view from the distance of the galloping bachelors of stallions splashing on the water. The reputation of Curracloe echoed in Hollywood being the actual location of the D-Day sequence in the 1998 blockbuster film: “Saving Private Ryan.”
