Welcome to Wild Atlantic Days, a new series where we will take you for tasters of some of the best ways to spend a day in Kinsale! ❤️

Kinsale, the start/end point of the celebrated Wild Atlantic Way, has been the site of many momentous events in Irish History and Charles Fort has been at the epicentre of many of them! 😮

The site is one of the largest military forts in the country and one of the best preserved 17th Century star-shaped forts. This national monument features two enormous bastions overlooking the sea and the remains of military barracks and the museum displays fascinating equipment and facilities used within the walls of this historic structure ⭐️

In exciting news Lemon Leaf Cafe Kinsale have also recently opened a new location inside the fort which you can visit for free to savour some of your favourite dishes while you enjoy the captivating views 🫶

Charles Fort has a €5 entry fee for adults and is a must see for any visitor to the town. The fort will host many fascinating events (including free open days!) for the upcoming Heritage Week which you can see on the events section of our website www.kinsale.ie 👌

Charles fort is also currently running a kids scavenger hunt called ‘Jurassic Fort’ where the mission is to find as many hidden dinosaurs as possible! 🦖

Our top tips for a visit to Charles Fort are to walk there via Scilly Walk, refuel at the beautiful The Bulman bar & Restaurant and walk back via the High Road to take in the stunning views of the town ❤️

On Monday 24th June, the Kinsale Chamber of Tourism & Business were delighted to be part of the Asia Matters China Ireland Tourism Summit! 🙌🤩

The Summit focused on raising awareness about fostering connections between Cork and China. Our committee member Maud Black and Chairperson Liam Edwards were on the panel at a discussion in Kinsale Library as part of the summit 👏

Kinsale was also the venue of the dinner for the international event as The Asia Matters Summit concluded with a beautiful dinner at Trident Hotel with the county’s key tourism stakeholders in attendance. Cllr Gillian Coughlan commented on the importance of Kinsale as the venue;

“Kinsale is a great place for forging links, forging friendships, and lasting friendships from all over the world. People travel to kinsale to meet, to break bread, to make deals, and to forge friendships.”

We would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to Martin Murray and Samantha Hobbs of Asia Matters for organising a brilliant day of coming together to analyse and strategise our future tourism links ⭐️

Jewels of History ✨
Explore Ireland’s Island heritage on the Wild Atlantic Way 🌊

As one of the country’s largest military installations, Charles Fort has been part of some of the most momentous events of Irish history. William Robinson, architect of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, Dublin, is credited with designing it. Its dimensions are awe-inspiring – some of the outer defences are 16 metres high.

The view from the ramparts looking out over Kinsale Harbour is spectacular.
