It is National Tree Week here in Ireland, with the theme this year being 'Biodiversity Begins With Trees'.

We thought it was appropriate to share some tips for your tourism or hospitality business about what you can do to protect our biodiversity.

Tip 1: Raise awareness with employees and encourage them to take action at home and in their communities. Business in the Community has a great handbook to help you here https://www.bitc.ie/newsroom/news/the-biodiversity-handbook-for-business/ and Fáilte Ireland Ireland has a more recent guide with more case studies here https://supports.failteireland.ie/climate-action/biodiversity/

Tip 2: Choose suppliers and materials that are proactive in protecting and managing biodiversity.

Tip 3: Manage any land you have on your business to ensure there are areas for pollinators and biodiversity to flourish.

Tip 4: Sign a biodiversity pledge. If you are on the island of Ireland, why not become an All-Ireland Pollinator Plan Business Supporter with Biodiversity Ireland. Visit here for more information https://pollinators.ie/businesses/

Extra tip: Share what you have done in your business to protect biodiversity. This will only encourage others to do the same.

We are delighted to have biodiversity expert Oonagh O'Dwyer of Wild Kitchen deliver Biodiversity and Business Workshops as part of our destination development training programmes. If you would like to know more about our programmes you can visit our website here https://www.thetourismspace.com/destinationprojects.
