We found ourself with a spare day in Limerick so booked the medieval walking tour with Declan. We'd heard awful things about Limerick before we arrived but were pleased to see it is actually a lovely city (the sun was shining so I'm sure that helped) Declan made the tour really interesting but not too complicated (I'm not much of a historian) and it helped give us a taster of what was available to see and do if we wanted to. He also recommended a great little tea room who do amazing scones! I highly recommend this tour if you have a spare hour or 2

There are little Green Men all over Limerick but these little Green Men can be found on the façade of Limerick City Gallery of Art on Pery Square. They always bring a smile to visitors.

I love telling the story of the Siege of Limerick and the life of Patrick Sarsfield on my Medieval Walking Tour.

“Brilliant, insightful and witty tour of Limerick”

My friends and I went on the medieval tour recently. Declan was engaging, informative, and full of witty insights into the history of Limerick. The tour included engrossing stories of the Siege of Limerick and one of my friends is now encumbered with a hopeless crush on Patrick Sarsfield, the fault of which lies with Declan's larger-than-life re-telling of his story.
Would definitely recommend this tour!

Tried to find information about a museum in Limerick and happened to get referred to Declan; what a fortuitous accident! He must be one of the most knowledgeable people there is concerning Limerick's history. He makes history three dimensional with the stories he tells about buildings, places, and monuments. His tours are as long, but no longer (which is very nice if you're trying to keep to a schedule), as advertised. Any of Declan's tours is an excellent way to spend 90 minutes in Limerick!

“Facinating tour with Declan"

Last year hubby & I did the Georgian Limerick walking tour with Declan. He's a great guide, knowledgeable but fun-- no dry boring facts here! He brings the city to life. Hubby Terry mainly went on the tour to humour me, but he ended up loving it :-) So much so that we are going to do another tour with Declan on our next visit to Limerick!

Fantastic walking tour with the perfect balance of history and humour. Declan is an excellent tour guide and a tour with him allows you to avail of discounts at some of Limerick's other museums

“A guided walk around Limerick City”

We were on a day out in the city and saw the brochure for walking tours. We rang the number and Declan agreed to take us on the walk when he finished work in the Hunt Museum. He didn't mind that there were only two of us. Declan imparted a huge amount of information in a light touch way. He seems well able to tailor the content to his audience. We did the medieval quarter and were sorry that we hadn't time to visit some of the attractions like the cathedral and the castle. I would recommend a walk with Declan at the beginning of your day so that you can go back and visit places afterwards

Declan was a wonderful tour guide - sharing lots of funny stories as well as some of the major historical events. Good discounts at other museums - so good idea to do this early on the trip. Also had good recommendations for restaurants and bars to check out around the city. Definitely recommend this walking tour!

“Very pleasant tour and guide”
5 of 5 starsReviewed 6 May 2014
Our extremely knowledgeable guide, Declan, volunteered to meet us at our hotel at a mutually convenient time - I have never before known a guide consider mutual convenience! He merged two tours into one - Georgian Limerick and Angela's Ashes - and also gave us chocolate halfway through the tour and offered an umbrella when it started to drizzle. The tour was very interesting and I am now re-reading "Angela's Ashes" while the tour is relatively fresh in my mind. However, I'm envious of "dermgoddess", another reviewer, as we didn't have time to go inside the McCourt Museum when we went by there on the tour (when my companion and I went a couple of days later, the museum was shut - contrary to the opening hours displayed on its website - and I couldn't wait as I had to catch a plane). So if you do an Angela's Ashes tour and the museum is actually open, see if you can prevail on Declan to let you spend a bit of time inside (sorry, Declan!)

“A wonderful experience due to Declan being so knowledgeable AND flexible”
5 of 5 starsReviewed 25 April 2014 via mobile

Declan met us at our hotel early in the morning and off we went. Because we had already seen parts of limerick, he changed the itinerary from medieval Limerick to Georgian Limerick. What a pleasant amiable and knowledgeable gentleman. We went by the Frank McCourt museum and he said he was flexible on time so why don't we pop in and see it as we were right there! He also was knowledgeable about places to eat and drink. We left Declan and went over to the Hunt museum (he had given us a discount coupon) and while walking thru the museum Declan came up and answered a few questions. And his friendliness didn't end there. When we checked in for dinner at the restaurant he recommended, there was a message waiting for us, thanking us for spending the morning with him, and telling us to enjoy the rest of our trip. Thanks Declan. I will make sure my friends contact you when traveling in Limerick!!!!
