The Seanchaí is a visitor and cultural heritage centre in the Historic Town of Listowel which presents the works of the great Kerry writers in a unique audio-visual experience. Located in a 19th century Georgian residence in Listowel’s magnificent Square, the Centre features five of the County Kerry’s most esteemed writers – John B. Keane, Bryan MacMahon, George Fitzmaurice, Brendan Kennelly and M

aurice Walsh. The writings of these national and internationally renowned literary figures are filled with an abundance of rich characters, humour, romance and tragedy drawn from the towns and villages of North Kerry. The words of the writers will make you laugh and cry, but above all you will come away from your visit to Seanchaí with a sense of the people and places that shaped Kerry’s literary genius.

Stay safe everyone - it’s the perfect opportunity to curl up with a good book!

We plan to reopen on Monday 13th January at 10am, weather permitting.

Kerry Writers’ Museum will be taking a short Christmas break from Monday 23rd December at 4pm and reopening on Thursday 2nd January 2025 at 10am.

Earlier today, Kerry Writers’ Museum came alive with festive cheer as friends, family, and neighbours gathered for an afternoon of laughter, delicious treats, and heartwarming tunes.

A huge thank you to James Gornall for providing such a wonderful musical backdrop to the afternoons festivities and to everyone who joined us for our afternoon of Christmas cheer!

✨ We had an incredible day in Kerry Writers’ Museum in Listowel on Sunday at our annual Christmas Fine Arts & Crafts Fair!

The event brought together a wonderful mix of local artists, makers, and families for a celebration of creativity and festive cheer.

Visitors were treated to an amazing selection of handcrafted jewellery, stunning artwork, and seasonal treasures, all showcasing the immense talent of North Kerry’s creative community.

A highlight for families was the colourful face painting provided by the lovely Emma followed by Fairytale Storytime with Godfrey Coppinger and Danny Lawlor.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and supported our local creatives.

This year’s Tractor Run in Listowel was a true celebration of community and camaraderie, with tractors of all shapes and sizes rolling through the heart of Kerry lit up like Christmas trees!

Families enjoyed a day filled with art, stories, and festive spirit.

A huge thanks to Emma for bringing smiles to young faces with her creative face painting, and to Godfrey for sharing heartwarming Christmas tales.

A special mention to Danny Lawlor, who gave us a delightful reading from his latest book Christmas Coming, now available at the Museum.
