The Seanchaí is a visitor and cultural heritage centre in the Historic Town of Listowel which presents the works of the great Kerry writers in a unique audio-visual experience. Located in a 19th century Georgian residence in Listowel’s magnificent Square, the Centre features five of the County Kerry’s most esteemed writers – John B. Keane, Bryan MacMahon, George Fitzmaurice, Brendan Kennelly and M

aurice Walsh. The writings of these national and internationally renowned literary figures are filled with an abundance of rich characters, humour, romance and tragedy drawn from the towns and villages of North Kerry. The words of the writers will make you laugh and cry, but above all you will come away from your visit to Seanchaí with a sense of the people and places that shaped Kerry’s literary genius.

🎉 Culture Night Late: Theatre of the Hearthstone on Friday 20th September from 6pm, as as part of the 6th Listowel International Storytelling Festival

Join us for Culture Night Late: Theatre of the Hearthstone on Friday, 20th September from 6pm, inspired by Ireland's Master Storyteller Eamon Kelly.

Experience a spectacular carnival-style evening in Listowel's magnificent Square, transforming into a lively festival atmosphere.

The evening of free festivities will commence at 6pm in St John's Theatre & Arts Centre where families can enjoy the whimsical entertainment of Ray Bubbles, a favourite among children and adults alike.

As the evening progresses, Listowel Square will be alive with dynamic performances, offering something for everyone.

A highlight of the night will be the "Tapestry of Tales" storytelling showcase, where the rich oral tradition of storytelling will be celebrated by both seasoned narrators and fresh voices.

Complementing the storytelling will be the rhythmic beats of Drum Dance Ireland, the soulful sounds of the Flyshop Blues Band and lively traditional music and dance!

In addition to the performances, there will be a host of activities to engage audiences of all ages.

Families can enjoy balloon modelling and magical displays, while art lovers can witness artist Damian Daly capturing the spirit of the evening with a live portrait of guest storyteller Shane Ibbs Artist Kémi Osinubi-Carey will invite festival-goers to contribute to an interactive art display, encouraging everyone to leave their mark on a shared canvas and to add a line to a collaborative story.

The night will culminate in a spectacular finale with the Rogu Mobius Fire Show!

Listowel’s Carnival of Culture is a not-to-be-missed event, offering a unique opportunity to experience the best of Irish culture and creativity in one unforgettable night.

Our Story

Located in a beautifully restored 19th century Georgian residence in Listowel’s magnificent Square, Kerry Writers’ Museum takes you on a journey of discovery through the lives and works of some of the County Kerry’s esteemed writers including John B. Keane, Bryan MacMahon, George Fitzmaurice, Brendan Kennelly and Maurice Walsh. The works of these national and internationally acclaimed literary figures are filled with an abundance of rich characters, humour, romance and tragedy drawn from the towns and villages of North Kerry. The words of the writers will make you laugh and cry, but above all you will come away from your visit to our Museum with a sense of the people and places that shaped Kerry’s literary genius. Following your tour sample our award winning Alfredo coffee and scrumptous desserts at Castle View Cafe located at the entrance to Kerry Writers’ Museum.
