(29)

Longford is ideally located in the heart of the Lakelands region, within easy reach of many stunning and historic tourist attractions. Ancestral home of the Farrell Clan, it is a tranquil and mainly low-lying county, renowned for its Royal Canal Greenway and National Famine Way routes, its angling, boating and outdoor sporting activities. Steeped in ancient Irish mythology, Longford has many impre

ssive archaeological sites as well as a wealth of historical, literary and musical tradition. Longford is also home to Center Parcs Longford Forest on the outskirts of Ballymahon, which boasts luxurious on-site self catering lodges, over 100 activities for visitors and Ireland's largest water park. The only county in Ireland with three award winning villages, its accessibility to many of Irelands other main towns and cities make it a prime location as a holiday base. The true beauty of County Longford lies in its rural charm, the hospitality of its people and the breathtaking views of its quiet countryside of farmland, lakes, rivers and bogs.

Maximillion Foy is a Dublin based singer, producer, and performance artist who has been an ever present fixture on the Irish creative scene for the better part of two decades.

Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Max has earned plaudits for fronting boundary pushing rock acts like ‘Cell Games’, his wicked humour on podcasts like ‘Murder Most Irish’ and ‘Friends of Dorothy’, and his wild and unpredictable creative style.

I think we’re in for a serious treat folks 😁

The best pub in Ireland has been revealed at an awards ceremony held in Dublin this week. The Irish Restaurant Awards took place on Monday night and gave out a number of awards.

Among the categories that were awarded on the night was Best Pub. According to these awards, we now know where the best pub in Ireland is.

Its location might come as a shock, considering it isn't in a tourist hotspot by any means. You might have expected the pub to be located somewhere like Dublin or Galway, but Ireland's best pub is located in Co Longford.

The overall winner of Pub of the Year – Sponsored by Mad March Hare Poitín was Begleys Bar in Kiloe, Co Longford. The bar is definitely small and unassuming, and somewhere many tourists will not have visited.

Our Story

Longford, centrally located in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, is an excellent base for travelling around Ireland, or simply relaxing. Longford is rich in history and culture with stories of Maria Edgeworth, Michael Collins, Oscar Wilde, Corlea Trackway, Knights & Conquests, Ardagh Heritage Town and the Battle of Ballinamuck. It is also home to the wonderfully restored St. Mel’s Cathedral which was extensively damaged in the Christmas Day fire of 2009 and reopened for services at midnight mass on Christmas Eve 2014. It has since become a significant tourist attraction.

Longford has many impressive archaeological sites as well as a wealth of historical, literary and musical tradition. Ancestral home of the Farrell Clan, it is a tranquil and mainly low-lying county, renowned for its Royal Canal route, its angling, boating and outdoor sporting activities. Center Parcs Longford Forest, Ireland’s largest tourist attraction opened its doors in summer 2019. The short breaks on offer in high standard accommodation is perfect for family and friends in the beautiful secluded setting of Newcastle Woods. If you are interested in slow tourism, County Longford is rich in biodiversity with woodland and bog walks. Visit Longford and discover the hidden gems on offer in the heart of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.
