Youghal
Many people can't remember exactly how the Youghal Clock Gate Tower came to sit in its present location (mainly because it was built in 1777), but over 100 years ago this animation was created by the Horgan Brothers on how they imagined it was put into place, as well as some different very odd configurations. 😁
This short clip would have been shown to audiences in Cork when it was created.
Amazing that this film is over 100 years old!

The Spit Bank Lighthouse close to Cobh in County Cork, Ireland is a screw-pile lighthouse (screwed into the sand using piles) which marks a shallow bank in the navigable channels of lower Cork Harbour.
Though Irish engineer Alexander Mitchell went blind in 1802 (before he turned 23), he patented the screw-pile mooring in 1833, and built the first screw-pile lighthouses in 1838.
This lighthouse was completed sometime between 1851 and 1853. It was most recently renovated in 2013.
