🎭MOUNTMELLICK DRAMA GROUP PRESENTS A NIGHT OF THEATRE ! 🎭
Only one week until opening night and we are so excited to present to you three One Act Plays for your entertainment!
Featuring:
❤️”My Narrator” by Norm Foster ❤️
Imagine what would happen if that little voice inside your head—the one that tells you how to behave and what choices to make—suddenly took on a life of its own? For Lacy and Miles, love is what happens, and with hilarious results.
My Narrator is a fast-paced comedy where the socially inept Miles, a salesman in a clothing store, blurts and stumbles his way to selling a shirt to Lacy – a talented painter who is stuck in her own personal and professional rut.Providing some colourful commentary on the spluttering relationship between Lacy and Miles is Lacy’s inner narrator, Barb. Along the way hapless Miles is joined by his own narrating inner voice, Bob, who tries to guide him on his journey with Lacy. However, Barb and Bob struggle to keep focused, leading to misunderstandings and mayhem!!
🥀 “Dead Man’s Bells” by Méabh de Brún 🥀
Foxgloves (Dead Mans Bells) are not just a pretty face. They have medicinal uses, particularly used in relation to cardiac issues. They are also toxic when taken in excess and can have fatal consequences.
This dark comedy, is a gothic rural tale of inheritance, rivalry and misdeeds told by three sisters. The play is a tale of three sisters, one brother, and a farm that’s up for grabs. Communally woven, it explores the shared chorus of siblinghood and the weight of unspoken family secrets.
👨🏼🌾 “The Quiet Land” by Malachy McKenna 👨🏼🌾
Two elderly farmers, Eamon and Nashee, meet at a gate on a remote hillside. These men are old friends, old rivals, old neighbours. They are men of heart, of humour, of hardness. Their conversation is a throwback to a gentler time, when silence was as telling as declaration and meaning was more often found between the lines than on them. But there's nothing gentle about today's conversation. In facing the bitter reality of their remote defiance, Eamon and Nashee have grown fearful and desperate. Now they are forced to confront each other with some heartbreaking truths that test their friendship to its limit. After today, will they ever again talk on this hillside?
Three different stories, three different casts, it’s a night not to be missed!
Shows on Thursday 14th March and Friday 15th March 2024 in the Mountmellick Community Arts Centre at 8pm nightly.
🎟Tickets cost €15.00/€10.00 Concession and will be available on the door! 🎟

Throwback Thursday: The Enduring Beauty of Mountmellick Embroidery
This week's takes us to the charming town of Mountmellick, Ireland, and its unique embroidery tradition. In 1825, Joanna Carter, inspired by a global lace revival, sowed the seeds of what would become Mountmellick embroidery, a stunning whitework style known for its floral motifs and intricate knotted and padded stitches.
While Carter ignited the spark, the flame was kept alive thanks to the dedication of other remarkable women. Margaret Beale, a talented embroiderer, took on the mantle of preserving the craft in the late 19th century. Decades later, Sister Theresa Margaret played a pivotal role in its revival, establishing the Mountmellick Embroidery & Heritage Museum and ensuring this exquisite art form continues to captivate us today.
It was lovely for the accommodation businesses in the town to be invited on a tour so that we can promote this unique tourist gem. The photos show just a glimpse of what the museum holds...
