Sunrise and Sphinx in Borrisoleigh. The shape of the trees in the distance reminded me of a sphinx and the fog added to the illusion, this was as near as I could get to it but I wouldn’t have gone a whole lot nearer even if I could as the horses and the surrounding countryside add to the scene

Sagra dei ceci e dello zafferano e Palio degli Asini di Navelli,
This was probably my 4th time I’ve photographed the festival of Chickpeas and Saffron in Navelli,Abruzzo,Italy, the highlight of the festival has to be the Palio, a crazy but fun event. I still don’t understand the rules but the passion and will to win is evident. This year was the first year I photographed it in the rain as it is usually at least 30 degrees and full sunshine. It didn’t dampen any of the riders and runners enthusiasm though.

Because it’s such a colourful event I normally concentrate on shooting it in colour but as I made this image I immediately knew this would have to be a black and white image because of the facial expressions which would have been lost amid the colours involved.
