Early morning at The World's 1st Self Catering Pub Conroy's Old Bar and it looks like we have all the makings for a beautiful day.
Hidden behind a tall wall and solid black drive gates the garden at Conroy's Old Bar has always been a labour of love for us.
When we bought the property nearly 19years ago there wasn't a single flower in the tree lined garden, as the whole garden was a sand arena for the former owners horses.
More recently the garden has not only welcomed travellers from around the globe whilst staying in Conroy's Old Bar, but in between guests, it has also hosted many children's workshops, parties and summer camps for Tinkerin Myndz and this summer it was also the location for The World's 1st Self Catering Pubs very first Craft and Food Fair, which was a great success.
Unfortunately, most recently during a very stormy night, the young herd of cattle that had been grazing in the back field were spooked and broke in through the fencing.
Unable to find their way back out in the dark, they spent the next few hours trampling and munching their way around the garden.
As you can imagine, a herd of cattle can make an awful lot of mess in a very short space of time and once daylight broke and we'd finally managed to get the last of the cattle out of the garden, the amount of damage became quite obvious.
Over the last few weeks, to those seeing the garden for the first time, it's still receives an unexpected "wow", which is great, especially in winter when it really isn't looking it's best.
But for us, knowing what it had been, and to see it now, it really has been heart breaking. It's been hard to even want to venture out there.
But this morning, after seeing the daffodils florishing once again and then this beautiful sight it really did turn things around.
Mother nature really is wonderful! 😊

We take the health of our family and that of our guests very seriously, so much so that we made the decision at the beginning of the week to close The World's 1st Self Catering Pub, Conroy's Old Bar until it is deemed appropriate to reopen.
Unfortunately, that does mean that guests don't get the chance to sit out in the garden, in front of the outdoor fire and watch the beautiful sunsets that we're blessed with.
So, not to completely disappoint you, here's a little snippet of last night's wonderful sunset, taken from the garden.

Well, it's that time of year again when The World's 1st Self Catering Pub comes into its own.
Autumn & Winter really is the best time of year to enjoy all that Conroy's Old Bar has to offer.
Whether it's a romantic get away, a couples catchup, or a family break, once you're inside Conroy's, it really doesn't matter what the weather is outside.
With the fire blazing away, it's time to snuggle up and relax.....
Quality time together and making memories to treasure, is what it's all about.
Whether it's a darts or skittles match or the children playing "shops" with the original till, with its real money inside, or just cosying up in front of the fire to read a book, play cards or one of the many board games, perhaps even try to finish one of the jigsaw's before the end of your stay......
Meanwhile the smell of a hearty stew can be wafting over from the kitchen, as it simmers away.
And then, as the day draws to a close, don't forget to turn on the electric blankets on the beds....
There's nothing more comforting than getting into a cosy warm bed, at the end of a truly relaxing day........especially when your bed is only a few steps away from the bar !.....

Whilst in the middle of todays changeover, I walked out of the back door of the pub to the garden full of wonderful birdsong and my very own private display of a lovely selection of birds in flight and making the most of the recent very welcomed rainfall 😍

The garden at Conroy's Old Bar is a far cry from the sand arena we inherited from the previous owners, when we bought the property.
Over the last 14yrs the garden has evolved to the enchanting haven it is today.
When the "other" little old pub and the former stone cottage at the bottom of the garden were knocked in the 1950's, (so that the licence could be transferred to the newly built Conroy's Bar), the stone was dumped in a huge pile along the garden boundary. It took blood, sweat and a few tears on my part with trapped fingers, to make good use of it in landscaping the garden. It tested our muscles, our creativity and our wall building skills to the max....
But today, as we had no guest's, I had the rare chance to enjoy the garden for myself and looking round as I pegged out the washing and saw our newest visitor Mr Rabbit whose taken up residence under the turf shed, it was at that moment I realised just how much pleasure the garden of The World's 1st Self Catering Pub has brought to not just our friends and our family, but also our guests over the years.....
From enjoying a bbq on our specially built beer keg bbq, to hunting for fairies, to Easter egg hunts, to games of tennis, football and badminton, to enjoying a relaxing evening watching the sun set and gazing up at the night sky, (which we are fortunate enough to see in all of its glory due to the lack of light pollution we have here)....
It truly has been a labour of love worth every trapped finger, pulled muscle and weeding session 😍
If sleeping in unique places is your thing....then how does a super king sized bed under the arch of the old barrel store, in a traditional Irish village bar suit you?.....

Conroy's Old Bar, outside there is a large garden, with plenty of outdoor games, including a tree swing and the enchanting World of Fairies Fairy Garden, with hobbit hole, Leprechauns pirate ship and giant chalk boards.
If you should wish to browse/buy crafts & gifts from the
Cottage Garden Craftworks, World of Fairies Workshop situated just next door, it can be opened by arrangement during your stay.
And approx 600yds from Conroy's Old Bar there is also a lovely children's playground.
And for Teenagers ?
Conroy's Old Bar has become a very popular holiday destination for families with teenagers.
Families finding that their children are at "that age" when it's no longer "cool" to be going on holiday with their parents, seem to have found the solution in having one last holiday with them, by coming to Conroy's Old Bar.
Teenagers can't seem to resist the thought of spending their holiday "in a pub" (albeit a "Pub With No Beer") and the family having it all to themselves.

Just 7.8km from Conroy's Old Bar is Bike Park Ireland, in fact it's so close you can stand at the front door of Conroy's and see the cross at the top of Knockshegowna hill, where the Bike Park is situated.

How about a visit to Nenagh Heritage Centre just 23km away ?.. It's here you will find the original old manual telephone exchange, that was once installed in Conroy's old village shop and Post Office, situated next door to Conroy's Old Bar.
Tearaways Pet Farm & Activity Centre is only 13km from Conroy's and a great place for your little ones to while away the hours and burn off some energy, especially if the weather isn't on your side.

For those who would rather be ON the water, you couldn't pick a better spot. On Lough Derg, there's something for everyone.
For sailing, we have Shannon Sailing Marina situated at Dromineer, a lovely harbour, overlooked by the remains of it's historic castle. And there's also Lough Derg Yacht Club too.
There's also great fishing on Lough Derg, either from the piers or shoreline or perhaps with an experienced guide like Herman at FisHerman Walking Holidays Ireland. Or you can even hire your own boat from Shannon Boat Hire. When staying at Conroy's Old Bar, we can also arrange for a local guy to either hire you a boat or he will take you out himself and show you all the best fishing spots.

It's fair to say The World's 1st Self Catering Pub - Conroy's Old Bar is situated in an often overlooked area of Ireland.
We don't have the mass tourism of Dublin or The Wild Atlantic Way.
We don't have the BIG tourist attractions like Blarney Castle or The Cliffs of Moher.
