Music Therapy is an evidence-based practice that uses music to support and encourage the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of an individual. Through shared musical interaction, the therapist works towards specific therapeutic goals. eloping new skills, encouraging independence, creating a space for creativity, developing focus and attention to task, dealing with stress and anxiety, providing sensory stimulation, and relaxation. Music therapy can also be a safe space for those who have difficulty using words. Niamh is a qualified music therapist. She graduated from the University of Limerick with a Masters degree in Music Therapy. Niamh has experience working with people from all stages of life who have autistic spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities and dementia. She also has clinical experience in stroke rehabilitation, neuro-disability and acquired brain injury. Niamh is available for private referrals, to create and facilitate music therapy programmes based on specific needs for individuals or groups.
