We are delighted that to announce that our next demonstrator is Sligo’s very own seaweed queen, Dr Prannie Rhatigan!

Prannie, author of the Irish Seaweed Kitchen, is a medical doctor who has combined her experience in the health sector with her lifelong passion for harvesting, cooking and gardening organically with seaweed, to promote the incredible health benefits that come with it, as well as the connection between food and health in general.

Prannie certainly knows what she is talking about, and she has worked globally to promote the incredible benefits seaweed has to offer. Her enthusiasm for her subject has earned her a well deserved credit for accessibility and innovation, both of which reflect in her many TV and radio appearances worldwide. She founded Sligo Seaweed Days and The Sligo Seaweed Experience, and is a proud member of Sligo Food Trail. In 2023 she was awarded Local Food Hero for Connaught by The Irish Times and the Irish Restaurant Association.

In addition to spreading the word about seaweed, Prannie is passionate about sustainability, the links between food and genetics, live and fermented foods, and the future of food worldwide. She launched her own Irish Seaweed Kitchen Blend of Irish Seaweeds in 2019. She recently was invited to join The International Seaweed for Health Conference organising committee.

At the Taste of Sligo, our main aim above all else is to promote our incredible county and putting Sligo on the foodie map, and there is no better woman to be a part of that than Dr Rhattigan. She works tirelessly to promote the incredible offerings our coastline has to offer and we are delighted to have her joining us.
