Blackwater Lodge is Ireland's premier salmon fishing lodge. It is an informal, comfortable lodge-style establishment set in a magnificent location on the side of the valley overlooking the world-famous Munster Blackwater - one of Europe’s most spectacular salmon rivers. It’s a no-nonsense, friendly place, where the comfort and enjoyment of salmon anglers is the top priority - truly a specialist sp

orting lodge. For years, the Blackwater Lodge has been the hideaway of salmon anglers from all over Europe and North America. They return again and again because of the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful location. Historically, the Lodge was formerly the railway station for the village of Ballyduff. It was built in 1882 & the line eventually closed in 1967. Construction of the Lodge as we know it now began in 1971 around the old station buildings. The Lodge offers both guesthouse and self-catering cottage accommodation. It has a lovely lounge with a panoramic river view. It has its own tackle shop situated next to the Lounge, which is a hive of activity in the early morning and evening, as guests make sure they are all tackled up for their day's fishing. Small, but incredibly well stocked, it has all the day-to-day requirements such as fly lines, leaders, flies, spinners, bait & all sorts of terminal tackle, plus fly & spinning rods for hire - even some recommended rods & reels to buy. There is a rod room for guests tackle & in-house smokery for guests catches. The Lodge can also provide guides & tuition in all forms of salmon fishing. The Lodge is situated on the border between counties Cork and Waterford. Access is very easy as it is situated only one hour from Cork (35 miles), 2 hours from Shannon (75 miles) & Rosslare (90 miles) and 4 hours from Dublin (150miles). Please note that the Lodge closed its doors at the end of the 2015 season due to health problems for proprietor Ian Powell. The Lodge will be up for sale in early 2017. The Lodge Fishery has private and exclusive control of 16 beats (approximately 15 miles of single bank fishing) on the best reaches of the Cork Blackwater (one of the best salmon rivers in Europe) between Lismore and Mallow. This covers some 40 river miles, starting only 3 miles above the tidal limit. Superb laminated beat & route maps are provided for guests for access to the fishing. There is no overcrowding of the fishing with the number of anglers per beat limited normally to two for fly only and four for other methods. The Lodge has a high record fishery with approximately 600 to 1,000 salmon caught on the Lodge's beats alone per season. All methods are allowed, but the daily beat rota caters especially for fly fishers. The Lodge’s website is unique in that it has a daily updated river report page.
