Can't go on the Camino this summer, well why not try our very own pilgrim path here in Ireland? 👣

Tóchar Phádraig is an ancient pilgrim path of 35km stretching from Ballintubber Abbey in central Mayo all the way to Croagh Patrick on the shores of Clew Bay.

Originally it was the chariot road that went from Rathcruachan, the seat of the Kings and Queens of Connacht, to Aughagower and Cruachan Aille, as Croagh Patrick was called in Pre-Christian times.

After St Patrick’s time, pilgrims began to traverse that same road to the holy mountain and over time it became known as Tóchar Phádraig or St Patrick’s Causeway.

You can find upcoming guided walks along the route from www.ballintubberabbey.ie/tochar-phadraic

MK Tours:

I grew up in a place called Killadoon, a few miles west of Louisburgh and overlooking Clare Island, Grainne Mhaille”s Castle, Inish Turk and Inish Boffin. We were surrounded by Mountains ie Muilree, Croagh Patrick, Nephin. We were close to Doolough and Connemara. Westport is only 20 kms of a drive. We were seeped in a history and culture from our neighbouring countries for centuries. This combined with a beautiful landscape inspired me to gain as much knowledge as possible about our country. From a very early age I continually watched the ever changing colours of the landscape and the sea. I dont think I ever saw the same colours on any one day. This is the knowledge I try to impart to my tour groups. Our history and culture has greatly impacted our values, mannerisms, and our creative sense of wellbeing. I bring this into my everyday life and also to the tours and experiences I offer as I do being an artist.

I have discovered how peaceful and tranquil tourers feel while recreating past historical and cultural experiences. For the artists this beauty can be created in a painting. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
