Whiskers New Park Animal Sanctuary

Whiskers New Park Animal Sanctuary Please call first if you'd like to arrange a visit. Whiskers New Park Sanctuary was founded by Janice & Peter Simcox who ran it together for over 20 years.
(21)

It is located in the peaceful surroundings of the Co Galway countryside. Janice continues to run the sanctuary but no longer takes in new animals, instead focusing on letting her long term residents live out the rest of their lives in peace.

My husband and I moved from the North East of England to Ireland over 25 year

s ago. A couple of years later we decided to set up an animal sanctuary. The animal sanctuary has seen many changes over the years. We started out with only a few animals but over the years we have been home to everything from peacocks to guinea pigs and rabbits to ducks. All our animals are vaccinated and neutered. We have looked after many animals, many of which have included amputees and 'problem pets' who often do not get an opportunity to be re-homed. Here with us they are given a secure and happy home by way of purpose built houses and plenty of land to run around. They stroll back to their houses in the evening to eat, but if they should wish to stay out for the night, there are plenty of treehouses and other places for them to sleep. We have nursed so many animals back to health from the brink of death since we began. We have spent many, many hours caring and nurturing for each one's health so that they would be healthy enough to find a new home with someone who would give them the care that they deserve. We no longer receive funding from the dept. but instead rely on donations and my pension. All that we have ever asked is that anyone who takes an animal from us can make a donation to cover, at least partly, the expenses that we have incurred in neutering and vaccinating the animal.

Taken over the last few weeks . I have 40 cats here was 37 before Slinky and Tony found their way here, and of course Teddy who is not kind friendly towards any other cats and has to stay in his unit.
It worries me as they are young and I will not be around forever. Being only one person looking after Donkeys and goats as well as the cats . Please understand long term it is not fair on them.

As the sanctuary is not using all the units doomed to bad to repair.I am having them eventually taken down and more trees planted. Materials that are of some use will help towards Morgan and Broms shelter for their field. The residents have gone a long way in accepting the strays now it is catching them fortunately their quite used to me and come every morning to be fed.

Recently, I’ve had a few people ask how they can help or make a donation, I would always recommend PayPal as I can then pay directly for cat food or other essentials.

Please use: [email protected]

I can’t thank you all enough, every little really does make a big difference. Thank you.

I want to thank every one of you that has helped Whiskers with our repairs. All of your help has enabled us to cover the full cost of the materials. The fundraiser has been a leap of faith, but without it I would have had no way to do the repairs.

I only have until the 18th of December before the repair work for the field needs to be paid. Between everyone we have raised about half of the labour costs so far towards finishing the repairs. It’s a big ask to reach the total and the worry is building that I may not be able to manage to find the funds. I’m grateful for everything everyone can contribute to help.

Please feel free to visit my page or send me any questions, I’m always happy to chat about the sanctuary and the residents that you are helping. Thank you for all of your support.

We had some dry weather and completed the roofing felt on the cat shelters. Whiskers resident donkeys, Morgan and Brom were able to enjoy their newly fenced field. I could not stop smiling, it was such a joyful moment for them. It has been over a year since they were able to go into their favourite field, they get to see so much more and interact more with me. I’m sharing a small video clip for you to see.

The recent bad weather lifted and work resumed! It's great to see the shelters being repaired and once again enjoyed by the residents of Whiskers. One of the cats, Friend, quickly moved in and enjoyed some warm Autumn sunshine whilst work got underway to repair a roof on another nearby shelter.

I'm hopeful this dry spell will last as the fencing should start going in very soon.

To see repairs and improvements being done and the residents of Whiskers running, playing and loving life fills my heart with joy!

Thank you to all that have donated so far, we haven't reached our goal yet but getting closer each and every day.

Please remember, sharing is just as important as donating, every bit helps.

The continuous rain has unfortunately put the repairs at Whiskers behind schedule. Recent torrential rain and wind has brought down another shelter. The 21st of this month onwards is promised dry, here’s hoping!

Once the first shelters for the cats have been rebuilt, we’ll move on to the new fencing for the donkeys.

Whiskers still desperately needs funds to maintain the sanctuary and fund the damaged shelter. If all my followers donated just €1 each that would be enough to pay the bill. I would like to personally thank all of those who have helped in any way to make this possible, giving hope for the future to all residents of whiskers.

If you’re unable to donate, even sharing this post will still help to spread the word and could make all the difference! Thank you.

Had a busy week ,Tiger was poorly and had to have several teeth out and one very painful abcess . Orla my vet came to the sanctuary which is a huge help. After one night he is now eating and forgiven me for catching him in a towel. Teddy learning to ,mix with the sanctuary without fighting.

I wanted to give everyone an update on Whiskers residents, my new vet Orla from Glenamaddy came to check on six residents that were causing me concern. Bubbles has been diagnosed with diabetes. Belle her sister has a chest infection along with Misty. Bowie had her teeth cleaned as she was no longer grooming herself. Jill needed her teeth cleaned and big Fellow has a vascular polyp which at his age is worrying. Orla was very good to come out to me as I do not drive. The bill was €265 euro. Some had to be sedated and all are fine the following day.

Your donations really are making a huge difference! I and the residents of Whiskers can't thank you enough ❤🐈❤

Our Story

Whiskers New Park Sanctuary is owned and managed by ourselves, Janice & Peter Simcox. It is located in the peaceful surroundings of the Co Galway countryside. We are originally from the North east of England and moved over to Ireland some 15 years ago. The animal sanctuary we started all those years back has just grown and grown to such an extent that it now takes up all our time and definitely all our money! We have a great many animals some of which are problem pets and some of which are amputees. These animals often do not get an opportunity to be re-homed. And here with us they are given a secure and happy home by way of purpose built houses with an enclosed garden area. We also have many beautiful, gentle and affectionate cats that will make some of you lucky people superb, devoted companions! All our animals are vaccinated and neutered then put up for re-homing. This unfortunately can take up to two years and sometimes more. Many times we have been brought animals that are almost at the point of death, either by lack of care or injuries. We have brought so many of these back to health. We have spent many, many hours caring and nurturing for each one's health so that they will be healthy enough to find a new home with someone who will give them the care that they deserve. We do receive some funding but this is not always guaranteed. We tend to live day to day without any definite assurances that we will have the money to care for the animals. Most of the money to run the sanctuary comes from Peters full time, regular job, this then leaves us little to live on as a family. All we ask is that anyone who takes a animal from us can make a donation to cover at least part way, the expenses that we have incurred in neutering and vaccinating the animal. We also desperately do need help with funding, so anyone who can spare some time and effort to raise funds for us, or help us by making a donation, we, and the animals, would be eternally grateful.

Now nearly 2018 ,a lot has changed .We are now both pensioners and how the years have flown by. We will not be getting any funding for Whiskers from the department ,this was our decision as we could not go by their rules which have changed. We have many elderly cats rather like ourselves but still enjoy life.My mission now is to continue letting them live out their lives at Whiskers but not bring any more in not because we do not want to, but because we ourselves are at an age where looking after so many cats is getting harder .We will totally rely on our Sponsors and what ever we have left over from our pension. This has been my life for 21 years it has brought a lot of joy as well as heart break but would never change anything. I hope in years to come life for the little Irish cat will change for the better, life is precious to all living things . I pray for continued support and heart felt thanks to the wonderful people that have helped us through the hard times as well as the good. My sanctuary is always open to any one who wants to visit . We have 65 wonderful Characters that promise you a warm welcome.
