The Moon rises around 11 or midnight Monday night with Jupiter following just below it. Seeing any early Perseid meteors yet? A few Perseids trickle in starting in late July, then they build for a couple of days toward their peak, August 12-13. The sky then will be moonless for perfect meteor-watching conditions. The weak, long-lasting Delta Aquariid shower is still somewhat active throughout this period. For both showers, the later in the night the more abundant the meteors.

"Mercury in retrograde" is one of the most searched terms relating to the planet. Astrological interpretations aside, apparent retrograde motion is an interesting phenomenon that has to do with orbital speeds and observer perspective.

Meteor impacts are an inevitable part of being a rocky planet in space. The craters they leave behind are a window into the tumultuous history of Earth.

it would take us 75,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri b

The closest exoplanet to Earth is only 4.2 light-years away. It's an Earth-sized world in the habitable zone of its small star, meaning liquid water *could* exist on the surface. Now, a possible second planet, Proxima Centauri c, is awaiting confirmation!

Even the closest known exoplanet is very far from Earth. If we traveled as fast as NASA's Voyager spacecraft, 38,000 mph/61,000 kph, it would take us 75,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri b. https://go.nasa.gov/3j14Srg

The two planets will be close enough in the sky to both be seen through a telescope.

We'll be looking for it.
