And this time - presenting the latest discovery related to the Ark!
According to the Bible the ark was kept in Beth-Shemesh. In 2019 archaeologists uncovered a flat slab of stone in a cultic area that fits the dimensions of the ark. Is this where the ark was kept??

Flying by helicopters to tombs of Jewish Sages in the north is quite a treat 😇.
No traffic jams and no hours on the bus.
Slick, fast and scenic flight to Tiberias, followed by a visit to tomb of Maimonides, tomb of Rabbi Meir Baal Hanes, and a nice lunch in the sukkah of Decks.
After some water sports activities we continue to Safed, visit the tomb of the Rashbi, and fly back from Meiron, along the coast, to Jerusalem.
Great way to end a great day! ☺️

Rumor says that on September 19th 2021 Israel will finally re-open for tourists! For now, only for groups of 5, or more, and only for vaccinated tourists. But this might change too, as Israel seems to recover well from the COVID19's 'Delta' mutation.

מי רוצה לקרא יוונית?
היתה לי היום הזכות להסתובב בכנסיית הקבר עם זריפיס זריפוקולוס.
זריפיס הוא אומן תמונות דתיות ומשמר. כבר 26 שנים שהוא מסתובב בן יוון מולדתו, ישראל, הרשות וירדן, מצייר איקונות לפי הזמנה, וגם עושה עבודות שימור.
בתחילת הקורונה הכנסיה היוונית-אורתודוקסית הזמינה אותו לעשות שימור של האיקונות בכנסיית הקבר. אני פגשתי אותו פעם ראשונה במהלך העבודות והתוודעתי לאיש המקסים הזה.
היום, במקרה, נפגשנו שוב בעודו לוגם ״קפה פיקולו״ בשוק אבטימוס (המוריסטן), ולשמחתי הוא הסכים לסקור בפני את כל התמונות שהוא שחזר.
עולם שלם של איקונות, קדושים, וכתובות ביוונית נפתח בפני!
הדבר עודד אותי סופית להציע השתלמות מאד נושאית בכנסיית הקבר (וסביבתה) סביב נושא יוונית, כתובות ביוונית ואיקונוגרפיה יוונית.
אז הנה התוכנית:

מקום מפגש: 9:30 קפה ארומה ממילא
בתוכנית:
חלק א (כשעה) - לימוד האותיות היווניות, מילים בסיסיות, ומסמך המסכם כמאתיים מילים בעברית ומקורן היווני.
חלק ב (כשלוש שעות) - סיור ברובע הנוצרי וקריאת כתובות ביוונית לאורך הציר. בכנסיית הקבר נדגום כתובות ביוונית בגולגותה, בחזית הקבר, ואזור אבן המשיחה.
השיא - ניתוח איקונוגרפי ולשוני של הציורים שעברו שימור לאורך האגף הצפוני (״קשתות מרים״) תחת ידיו האוהבות של זריפיס.

Explaining another new archaeological discovery on “The Watchman” show. And this time - the Jerubaal inscription from kh. E-Rai.
The site, dating to the 12th-10th century BCE, yielded a new significant discovery - a pottery shard bearing the name ירבעל. The name Jerubaal was the other name of Gideon, a charismatic leader and commander of the Israelites in the book of Judges.

Sderot is the closest city to Gaza Strip.
Since 2001 over 10,000 rockets 🚀 were launched towards Sderot by terrorists in Gaza.
Some where recycled into flowerpots, a hannukiah, and other sculptures.
Despite the continuous terror, Israelis still hope for peace with the Palestinians. Next to the border, the big and colorful “path to Peace” project keeps manifesting this message to the Palestinians in Gaza.
Maybe one day they will indeed join such a path.
