It has been a long while since I posted.
Tourism has dropped word wide about 2 months ago. BUT luckily, there were some (actually many) tourists that didn't change their plans and decided to travel north via Israel disregarding Virus danger. I had a great time during the close down, walking around my neighborhood (yes, I went way past the 100 m allowed)
and finding all the visitors that I missed in the past. The list is long and the names aren't the important part. What I hope to take with me and recommend to others also, is to take time, make time to open our eyes and ears to really notice and enjoy the lovely world around us. Don't postpone don't take for granted.
When it will be safer to tour, come and visit- take a tour with me, birding for beginners to see, hear and learn about our magnificent feathered friends.
Won't be long - maybe in time for Autumn migration.

It has been quite a while...But still I must write about the wonderful day I spent guiding Jason and Joanna. For Jason, his first visit to JLM, Joanna's a frequent visitor. The awe and excitement was felt by all of us as we walked through the ancient sites on Mt of Olives, the Old City unique places, the Western Wall and tunnel excavations. Still more to see...There is no other city like JERUSALEM.

Have you been to the Gazelle Valley Park in Jerusalem? A green open area in the middle of the busy city roads. Lovely paths to walk on, see gazelles and birdwatch...I few weeks ago I took part in a very moving ceremony held there(pic is of part of the grp), with tree planting after,in memory of those murdered in the Pittsburgh synagogue.
So, come with me to hear about this unique site, hear the story behind it, plant a tree, enjoy nature , relax.

For the past 3 days I had a wonderful time guiding lovely Ahava and her special Mom, Ramona. Some of the places we explored were: The City of David, took the role of archaeologists at Emek Tzurim, had a great day seeing the sites of Gush Etzion, and ended our time together at the "secret bullet factory" in Rehovot and the caves of Maresha. I even received a certificate as the "best tur girl" (tour guide ๐Ÿ˜‰) WOW!

I had the pleasure of guiding these wonderful Australian students. We took time to "immerse" ourselves in the 2000 year old Ritual Bath located on the Path of the Patriarch's. Have you visited these places yet? Shana Tova to all!!(Happy New year)

Visiting the Lone Oak of Gush Etzion with Pnina and her 2 grandsons, Yossi and Chaim. The remarkable 700 year old tree, was the only remnant left from the 4 communities ruined during the War of Independence, and could be seen from afar. It symbolizes the wish to return to Gush Etzion. After 19 years, we came back to the Oak to rebuild many flourishing communities. Come see Gush Etzion with me!!

A few weeks ago I spent a wonderful day guiding Miri, Yaakov and Menachem at Masada and Ein Gedi. Yes, it was hot, though in a few spots on Masada we were able to cool off (at the huge water cistern and the cable car going down (: ). Also getting wet at the Ein Gedi waterfalls definitely helped. Even with the heat, a day tour to Masada and Ein Gedi is a highlight of every visit to Israel. Contact me if you are interested in a tour - I would love to be your guide.

A couple of weeks ago, I went on a tour of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament)The red carpet was rolled out for my visit (Ha Ha Ha). I saw some of the magnificent artworks on display, some of the well-known Chagall. I saw a variety of interesting gifts given to the Knesset from visiting dignitaries. While sitting in the visitor's gallery, I marveled at the significance of the place I was in. ISRAEL is the ONLY democracy in the Middle East. What great achievements this country, celebrating (only) 70 years of independence, accomplished. With G-D's help, may we continue to thrive and flourish.

70 years ago a unit of 35 brave soldiers - "Lamed He" went on an urgent mission. Half were students at Hebrew U; the youngest was 16.5, the oldest-35. They came from all parts of the mosaic makeup of Israeli society-" Sabras", new Olim, Holocaust survivors, olim from Arab countries, rich &poor families, religious & non-religious. They all knew how important the mission was: bringing the much needed supplies to the sieged Gush Etzion, because the survival of the Gush meant the survival of Jewish Jerusalem.
They never made it to the Gush that cold Friday. They were all killed in a heroic battle fighting to the last bullet and then with stones. 35 young men fighting against hundreds of Arabs that surrounded them. Even the wounded Arabs spoke of their courage.
I went to Har Herzel Cemetery to take part in the memorial service. President Rivlin (who knew some of them personally) spoke of remembrance; of "Vehegadeta lebincha" tell your sons, pass on the story of these brave soldiers who left their studies, jobs, families, dreams, in order to defend our people, our nation, our right to live in the Land of our Fathers. I am proud to be a resident of Gush Etzion and see our communities as the best way to commemorate them.
1 of the 35, was Moshe Pearlstein. From Brooklyn, left YU in the middle of his studies, knowing that the right thing for him to do was to join those working, fighting hard for the birth of a Jewish State. I do not know if he has any living relatives. I stood by his grave to honor him. We are here today, 70 years later, thanks to him and so many other courageous soldiers. Am Yisrael Chai.

I had a wonderful day guiding Lidya, Boris, Vanessa and David in the Old City of Jerusalem. We walked through the Market Streets down to the Western Wall. We went back 2000 years as we toured the Western Wall Tunnels. Then went even further back in history as we visited the unique City of David, the OLDEST part of Jerusalem. Come with me on a tour of Jerusalem!

I always feel optimistic on the 21st of December - the shortest day in the year, from today the days grow longer- spring is on the way ๐Ÿ˜‰. A very quiet morning at the Jerusalem Bird Observatory tells me it is still winter, spring and migration is approx. 2 months away. The White throated King Fisher (model 2017) is a permanent resident in Israel, might even choose the JBO as its home. Come with me to this unique site in the heart of the city of Jerusalem, learn about the scientific and educational activities and of course see the birds.๐Ÿฆ

I had the pleasure of touring the Old City of Jerusalem with Donald, Christophe and Daniel. We also walked through some of the underground tunnels of the City of David. The thought of walking through tunnels built 2000 and even 4000 years ago is mind boggling, no matter how many times I do it. You can experience this too!๐Ÿ˜Ž

Had a great time touring the Old City of Jerusalem with Oren & Yehudit and their special guest Joe. After we visited The Holy Seplchure Church, we went to the magnificent excavations of the City of David - going back more than 3000 yrs. Then we walked up the 2000 year old sewage system exiting at the corner of the Southern & Western Wall, right on "Wall Street". See the pile of large stones? Imagine the loud BOOM they made hitting the street, after Roman soldiers pushed them down.....
Come with me to visit Jerusalem- so much to see, so much to experience.

Enjoying a late evening tour of the Old city of Jerusalem with visitors of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory. Constance, Alen (JBO) Brian, Evan, Trevor, Maina and Beth visiting from the Manomet Center for Conservation Research. May all our prayers said at the Western Wall, the Kotel, (and all the others) be fulfilled. Upon our New Year, may we be blessed with health, happiness, peace and lots of nature!!!

Touring Gush Etzion with Shmuel and the Persik family. First timers in the Gush! We had a great time visiting the Neve Daniel Lookout tower, (1000 m above sea level) the 2000 year old mikve, lunch at GE Winery and drove around in the Gush Etzion ATV's to see more of our gorgeous scenery. So if you have not been to Gush Etzion yet...it is about time. So much to see and do. Give me a call- I would love to guide you around..

This past week we celebrated 50 years of our return to the most important places for the Jewish Nation -.Jerusalem & Hebron are on the top of the list. As a resident of Gush Etzion, I am proud to see how the 4 small communities that predated the establesment of our state and were destroyed on the Eve of the Decleration of Independence, grew in past 50 years to more than 20 flourishing communities with over 25,000 residents. Thank you G-D for this miracle.
On Yom Yerushalyim, it was my privilage to guide in Jerusalem, a lovely group of people from Givat Shmuel's main Synagogue. We joined the thousands of people (approx 100,000) who danced through the streets of the new city& the alleyways of the Old City, all the way to the Kotel (as close as possible to the MOST important site) showing our deep love and connection to Jerusalem. Roman ceasars, 2000 years of exile, years of separation & UN resolutions can't disconnect Jerusalem from the Jews or the Jews from Jerusalem.

Touring Masada with Daniel and Lloyd. Daniel is climbing the steep steps up from the HUGE water cistern. (Herod had a "thing" with water- but the story is too long to tell here. Come with me to the site and I would love to explain!) We then walked down the steep "Snake Path" in record time. Good to know I can still do it, I had a great companion that made the effort fun!
