I love taking tourists on a second tour with me and I love guiding at Caesarea. On this past Friday I had the opportunity to take Larry, who I have guided before, to this extraordinary site so it was a perfect day. I met Larry while we were both volunteering on the Sar-El program with the Israeli army. Larry came a second time from the US to volunteer. Kol HaKavod כל הכבוד!

I had the pleasure of guiding returning tourist Andy last week. He specifically wanted to come now during this difficult time to show his support for the country. He had never been to Mount Herzl in Jerusalem before so off we went. Unfortunately we couldn’t see the graves of the prime ministers or presidents due to a ceremony being held but we did view the resting places of Theodore Herzl, and two famous WWII spies from Mandate Palestine caught behind enemy lines, Hannah Szenes and Enzo Sereni. 🇮🇱❤️

I took this photo earlier today at the Assuta Medical Center in Ra’anana. Where ever we go, whatever we do, we remember what happened to us on October 7th 2023 and the hostages still in captivity in Gaza. Am Yisrael Hai. עם ישראל חי. #71023

I had a great time leading a tour of historic Tel Aviv for the Ra’anana branch of the ESRA (English Speaking Residents Association) organization. We learned how and why the city was founded in 1909 and visited the places, talked about the architecture and spoke of the people who created this dynamic city before independence in 1948.

Not many tourists get to Hansen House in Jerusalem , it’s definitely off the beaten path. Built in 1887 as a l***r colony by German and Anglican Protestants, it now houses the Bezalel graduate art school and an exhibition on the building’s history. The lintel is inscribed “Jesus-Hilfe” meaning Jesus’s help.
One of the reasons Jerusalemites visit Hansen house is because of the great Ofaimme coffee shop which I had the pleasure to eat in yesterday with my wife, youngest son and daughter-in-law. Truely delicious!
Why the name Hansen House you may be wondering? Gerhard Hansen was the physician who identified the leprosy bacteria.

Last week I took a group of people from Ra’anana to the October 7th site in the Gaza Envelope area. We visited the Nova Festival site, the car graveyard at Tekuma, we volunteered at the Shuva station where soldiers going into and coming out of Gaza can get a free meal and some relaxation and also the site of the Police Station battle in Sderot. It was an important and moving day for all the participants. If you would like to organize a similar trip from anywhere in the greater Tel Aviv area, please contact me.

This statue is located in a square in the Ramat Gan diamond district, adjacent to Tel Aviv. It depicts an Iraqi Jew praying. From the side one can see the Hebrew letters on the scroll.
The statue commemorates two, sad, events which took place in Baghdad. The top half of the commemorative plaque (third photo) has the names of nine Jews hung in a public square on trumped up charges for spying for Israel after the Six Day War. 500,000 people attended the “happy” event!
The second half of the plaque commemorates the Farhud the 1941 pogrom which took place in Baghdad when 180 Jews were murdered and 1,000 injured. This was BEFORE the founding of the State of Israel. There were 130,000 Jews living in Iraq before 1948, today there are none. I wonder why?

Anyone following my wife’s Facebook posts over the last week knows we’ve been in Tbilisi Georgia. One afternoon we split up to do our own thing, she went shopping and I went to the Orbeliani Baths. If you’re into a “Turkish Bath” style experience-sauna, sulphur bath, kisa (google it) this is the place. 🇬🇪

Today I joined fifty, yes fifty! mostly English speaking residents of my home town Ra’anana, at an army base in northern Israel with the Sar-El organisation. Our mission today was to repack battle rations replacing expired items with fresh ones before their being sent to soldiers in the field. I would rather be working/guiding but when that’s not possible at least I can make a small contribution for our soldiers.

While preparing for a tour I will be giving on the history of pre-state Tel Aviv I took photos of some of the buildings we’ll be passing. The structures built in the 1920’s eclectic style and the 1930’s Bauhaus or international style are absolutely stunning. If you would also like a tour of this fascinating city, let me know.

I spent a great three days guiding this mother and son team who came to Israel on a mission to get a better understanding of the October 7th events. Before their official trip started we toured Jerusalem including walking through the 2700 year old tunnel at the City of David (lots of fun), Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, the Ayalon Institute-a.k.a. The bullet factory and Jaffa. We had a lot of interesting conversations along the way about the many facets which make up Israel.

As a tour guide I’ve been to Haifa many times but on a short weekend away my wife and I got a chance to some of the things I wanted to do and see. Haifa is all about the views so on Friday we went to the Hanging Bridge at Nesher Park, just outside Haifa. On Sunday we took both of Haifa’s cable cars, first to the Stella Maris Convent on Mount Carmel and the second, which was really great, from Haifa Bay Station up to Haifa University. And of course no trip to Haifa is complete without a stop to admire the Baha’i Shrine and gardens. 🇮🇱❤️

All work and no play isn’t good for the soul so when a colleague came to Israel from the US for work, the company decided he should take a day off. Together with a few of his Israeli co-workers we had a great day visiting Jaffa. We ended the afternoon with a late lunch at Dr. Shakshuka, a Jaffa institution.

It’s been my privilege to help out the Israeli army during this difficult time. Yesterday we were completing and packing ceramic protective vests for soldiers fighting in Gaza. Good thing some soldiers were sent to help with the lifting! #יחדננצח ❤️🇮🇱
