ימים ספורים לאחר ה-7 באוקטובר, במסגרת פעולות לטיהור ובדיקת בתי הנרצחים בניר עוז, הגיע לביתה של שפרה נוי ז"ל מתנדב זק"א, ישראל חסיד. (English below)
בתוך ההרס הרב בבית שחרב לגמרי, הוא מצא חנוכייה קטנה ואסף אותה. ישראל פירסם את התמונה ברשתות, ובאופן מקרי נכדה של שפרה, אלון בן ה-12, זיהה את החנוכייה וסיפר על כך לאימו דורית. דורית יצרה קשר עם ישראל והחנוכייה הועברה אליה
"על החנוכיה היה תליון שקניתי לאמא כשטיילתי בהודו. התליון לא שרד, אבל החנוכיה כן", סיפרה דורית ביום שישי האחרון כשביקרה בבית אימה עם ישראל. שפרה, מוותיקי ניר עוז, נרצחה באכזריות בבית שלאחר מכן הוצת, כמו בתים רבים אחרים בקיבוץ.
"הייתי בהרבה מיישובי העוטף לאחר הטבח. לקחתי כל חפץ עם סממן יהודי שמצאתי, במטרה להחזיר למשפחות. כך גם את החנוכייה של שפרה", מספר ישראל. החנוכיה שעלתה באש אומנם ספגה פיח רב, אך שרדה בשלמותה – ובחנוכה הקרוב כבר תשמש שוב את משפחתה של דורית: "אצל אמא תמיד היה אור בבית. את כל החגים היינו עושים אצלה, כל המשפחה. היא הייתה דואגת לבשל לנו ולשלוח את האוכל בקופסות גם כשלא היינו אצלה. יום לפני 7 באוקטובר אחותי הייתה אצלה והביאה לנו מהמאכלים של אמא", היא מספרת בגעגוע.

Just days after the terrible massacre on October 7th, during operations to clear and inspect the homes of the murdered in Nir Oz, a ZAKA (Disaster Victim Identification) volunteer, Israel Hasid, arrived at the home of the late Shifra Noy. Among the extensive destruction in the completely destroyed house, he found a small hanukkiah and collected it. Israel posted the photo on social media, and by chance, Shifra's 12-year-old grandson Alon recognized the hanukkiah and told his mother Dorit about it. Dorit contacted Israel and the hanukkiah was transferred to her.
"There was a pendant on the hanukkiah that I bought for mom when I traveled to India. The pendant didn't survive, but the hanukkiah did," Dorit recounted last Friday when she visited her mother's home with Israel. Shifra, one of Nir Oz's veterans, was brutally murdered in her home, which was later set on fire, like many other houses in the kibbutz.
"I visited many communities in the Gaza envelope after the massacre. I took every object with Jewish significance that I found, aiming to return them to families. That's also how I found Shifra's hanukkiah," Israel explains. Although the hanukkiah that went through the fire was covered in soot, it survived intact – and this coming Hanukkah it will once again serve Dorit's family: "Mom always had light in her home. We would celebrate all the holidays at her place, the whole family. She would make sure to cook for us and send food in containers even when we weren't with her. The day before October 7th, my sister was at her place and brought us some of mom's dishes," Dorit recalls longingly.
