On a quiet Tel Aviv beach, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Shoshi Tal, a cherished member of our J² squad, etched a simple but powerful message in the sand: “waiting for your return.” Her heartfelt gesture reflects the collective emotions of the people of Israel, Jews around the world, and countless others who anxiously await the release of the hostages held by hamas terrorists since October 7, 2023.

This moment of anticipation is one of solidarity, hope, and a deep yearning for the safe return of those still in captivity. Let us amplify their stories and their names, and continue to push for justice and humanity.

This stunning shot is of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. It’s one of the largest mosques in the world, with a capacity for 105,000 worshippers—25,000 inside and 80,000 in the courtyard. Its iconic minaret, the tallest in the world at 210 meters (689 feet), is a beacon for miles around, and the intricate craftsmanship reflects Morocco’s rich cultural heritage.

The Amplify Israel Rabbinic Fellowship is a prestigious, yearlong professional development program designed for early-career Reform rabbis. This initiative equips participants with the tools and resources to meaningfully integrate Israel and Jewish peoplehood into their rabbinic practice.

The current cohort is presently in Israel, led by Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch and Rabbi Tracy Kaplowitz. Today’s enriching experiences included a compelling presentation by journalist and author Matti Friedman, a thought-provoking dialogue with journalist, scholar, and author Yossi Klein Halevi, and a visit to the Magen David Adom headquarters in Ramle, where they explored the state-of-the-art blood bank facilities. Participants also had the privilege of connecting with local Israeli Reform rabbis, deepening their understanding of Israel’s dynamic and ever changing reality.

This New Year, we celebrated together in Israel with the Hebrew Union College Executive Master’s Program in Israel Education (Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion) The group lit Hanukkah candles on the seventh night at Hostage Square, marking a meaningful start to their journey.
