The Festival of is the third of the three pilgrimage festivals mentioned in the Torah, reminding us of our strong connection to the land and history. Descriptions of the holiday symbols found in ancient artifacts highlight the importance of agriculture in early times and the close relationship the ancient inhabitants had with the land.

One of the customs of the holiday is to hold the seven species that the Land of Israel is praised for in the sukkah.

Ancient depictions of the vine, fig, wheat, barley, olive, date, and pomegranate adorn pottery, stone, and bone artifacts known to us from before the (Iron Age). They symbolized the abundance of ancient Israel.

From the through the Mishnah and Talmud period (Hellenistic-Roman-Byzantine era), we see symbols more closely associated with Jewish faith, such as the menorah, ark, shofar, incense shovel, and lulav. These adorn stone artifacts, mosaics, pottery, glassware, and more.
