A long while has passed since I posted something in my ‘Authentic Israel’ series.
The place is St Peter’s Catholic church in Jaffa, where a ‘modern orthodox’ Jewish organist and his young cellist and violinist daughters were rehearsing for a public recital.
It was taken on the 23rd of August 2021, before the ‘delta variant’ of Covid ended a period in Israel without masks and other restrictions
I've been very amiss in posting this.
I had the privilege of guiding a private tour on 24th December 2019 for Dr Wilma Biaggi and her beautiful and highly talented vocalist granddaughter, Alessandra Sorace.
Alessandra was very taken with the incredible acoustics of St Anne's 12th century church in Bethesda, Jerusalem Old City, where she sang on Christmas eve and where the people who were visiting the site came to thank her afterwards. She sang a song in Hebrew from the Shabbat Eve liturgy for a friend back in the USA, Silent Night, The Lord's Prayer and other songs.
It was a true privilege

Purim - a festival drawn from the Biblical Book of Esther (Hadas) celebrating a story of redemption from evil in the great Persian Empire of 2400 years ago, is one of the happiest days in the Jewish calendar.
Each time the name of the evil 'Haman' son of Hamdata the Aggagite, descendent of Amelek is read from the scroll in Jewish communities around the world this day, the children boo and make a big noise.
The Book reminds us to bring presents of sweet food to family and neighbours, we dress differently (fancy dress) in order to remember those special days in the Persian capital Shushan (Suza in Greek) and basically have a big celebratory party.
It's all about Redemption.
The Book of Esther is the only Scroll (book) of the Hebrew Bible in which G-d's 4-letter name or any of His secondary names appear. However, the story is filled with a series of ridiculously unlikely 'coincidences', leading the Sages of Old to decide that this was clearly His Hand at work.
Purim Sameah! (Happy Purim!)
Pilgrimage over (till spring of 2017).
Look at this spirit heading to the airport for the journey home.
