The Sankaracharya Temple was built by Jaluka the Son of the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka in 200 BC.
A lot of stories and history are associated with the Sankaracharya Temple. Devotees believed that Jesus Christ had visited this Temple during his time. The Temple stairs leading to the inner shrine mention this Story.Historical references also mention this incident of Jesus Christ visiting this Temple and Kashmir.
The Gopadri hill ( 1000 feet in height) in Srinagar is home to the Sankaracharya Temple, also known as the Jyoteshwar Temple.

Guys,we went there in the month of 16th November 2023 and Memorable Journey the beautiful Landscape with unique Natural beauty surrounding the Shillong City to Cherrapunji Destination. The Elephant falls was the British name of what the local Khasi people once referred to as ka kshaid Lai patent khohsiew or *Three Steps Waterfalls* since the falls actually consisted of 3 three sections in Succession and there used to be a Rock resembling an Elephant near the left side of the main falls. However, that Rock was destroyed in an Earthquake back in 1897.
