𝓣𝓮𝓶𝓹𝓵𝓮 𝓸𝓯 𝓐𝓼𝓲𝓻𝓰𝓪𝓻𝓱 𝓯𝓸𝓻𝓽
This impressive fort was built in the 15th century by Asa Ahir. It was then conquered by the Farooqui dynasty. It fell under the control of the Mughals in 1601.
Inside this fort is a very special temple.
Mahadev Temple
The legend says that Ashwathama comes every morning to pray to Lord Shiva in this temple. Which makes it one of the oldest temples in India.
The temple that is present today was built in the 18th century in the Marathi style.
It is quite original because it is located in a very large stepwell which has more than 4 levels.
You must visit Burhanpur, you absolutely must see the wonders that hide in the fort of Asirgarh.

Two days ago I told you about the renovation of the Shekta stepwell. There is another village in Marathwada that has gone to great lengths to clean restore and preserve its heritage. This is the village of Charthana. I have been working on heritage protection awareness with this village since 2019. The inhabitants have done a tremendous job during the confinement to save this unique heritage. Now the whole village celebrates Shivaratri with fervor and happiness. 𝓢𝓱𝓲𝓿𝓪𝓻𝓪𝓽𝓻𝓲 𝓬𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓫𝓻𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓲𝓷 𝓢𝓮𝓴𝓽𝓪
The village of Sekta near Aurangabad celebrated Shivaratri yesterday.
The stepwell you see in the photos was an open dump just a year ago.
The first time I visited the village, I was sorry for the state of maintenance of this monument. With the help of Shrikant Umrikar, we talked to the locals to make them understand the importance of preserving this unique heritage.
A year later, this place has regained its central function in the village as well as its spiritual function.
It is the best example that the preservation of heritage is the only way for a preservation of culture.
I hope initiatives like this will be replicated from all over Maharashtra
