Kanha Jungle Lodge

Kanha Jungle Lodge The lodge is situated at the south end of Kanha National Park, 2 minutes from the Mukki gate.

For the past 28 years, Tarun and Dimple Bhati, have been running Kanha Jungle Lodge following the eco-friendly guidelines late Mr. Pradeep Sankhala (Tarun’s Uncle) set up when he established the lodge in 1988. The lodge is situated at the south end of Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, a 2 minute jeep ride away from the Mukki entrance gate and it is in walking distance of the Banjar river. As

the lodge is nestled amongst a forest of Sal, Bamboo and a number of flowering plants and trees, including the host plants for many butterflies makes it’s a paradise for insect enthusiasts and perfect place for birdwatchers alike - you can birdwatch from the porch of the guest cottages and if you’re lucky you will even spot a herd of spotted deer in amongst the trees, jackals, jungle cats, civet, wildboar and langur monkeys feeding in the treetops. Don't miss out the elusive, resident giant flying squirrel, the star attraction of Jungle Lodge. One can find tracks and signs of various mammals around the camp and on rare
occasions even big cats.

Lovely stay
The feel of the place is really good. The rooms are spacious and nice. The hosts are lovely people. The place brightens up in the evenings with lanterns and tales from the forest. We had some great sightings and would love to come back here again.

Amidst the tranquil setting, our unexpected encounter intertwined with the majestic rhythm of nature as a tiger, the sovereign of its realm, gracefully strolled through its territorial domain. The air resonated with a harmonious blend of awe and respect, uniting the essence of wilderness with the marvel of an untamed moment.

Paradise
This lodge is one of a kind! We felt very welcome! Rooms are cosy and clean, food is delicious with wonderful local herbs and spices ( not too spicy), the ambience is especially in the evening with the candles and a central fireplace warm, romantic, even fairytale like. The staff is the best ever, so hospitable. Nothing is too much for them. We love to mention the very personal involvement of hosts Tarun and Dimple.
This all and the beautiful safaris in the close by Kanha NP made our stay unforgettable.

In the intricate dance of predator and prey, a vigilant prey bird keeps a watchful eye on the hawk eagle. Here the racket- tailed drongo is trying to shoo away the eagle. Drongos do that to all raptors, they just hate the birds of prey, whether eagles, vultures or owls.

Indian cuisine is renowned for its vibrant and colorful dishes. Many dishes incorporate a variety of spices and ingredients that not only add flavor but also contribute to a visually appealing palette. For example, dishes like vegetable biryani, paneer tikka, chicken curry or mixed vegetable curry often showcase a vibrant spectrum of colors, making Indian food not just a treat for the taste buds but also for the eyes.

Misty morning safaris have their own enchanting charm. The mist adds an element of mystery and beauty to the landscape, making it a memorable and picturesque experience. Just like with early morning safaris, be sure to come prepared for changing weather conditions to relish the magical atmosphere and enjoy the sights and sounds of the wilderness!

Restarting the camp after the monsoon rains is indeed a formidable task, and it's commendable that our multiskilled staff, predominantly consisting of women from nearby villages, take on this responsibility. Their dedication and hardwork surely play a crucial role in making the camp successful.

Magical experience, highly recommended
I have traveled all over the world, and this small lodge is easily in my top 3 Set among Saal trees, KJL is a family legacy from the founder of the Tiger Project from the 1950's that saved the Bengals from extinction. The Kanha guides are superb: not only tigers close up, even a rare sloth bear, and the park is spectacular for birders. The gourmet Indian food is the best you will find anywhere, thanks to Dimple and her friendly, gracious staff. No wonder people return many times--we shall also!
