Masai Mara ft The Tano bora boys

The Tano Bora, meaning ‘The Magnificent Five’ in Swahili, was the famed cheetah
coalition in Masai Mara

Olarishani, meaning ‘Judge’ in Maa, is brothers with Olonyok, meaning ‘The one who puts efforts to achieve better results’. Winda, meaning ‘Hunter’ in Kiswahili, is brothers with Leboo, the Maa term for ‘The one who is always within a group’. Olpadan, meaning ‘Great Shooter’ in Maa, was the solo male, and the last to join the coalition.

We were fortunate to see all 5 in 2019. But during the next visit post covid they were down to three and now only Winda & Olonyok (Mbili bora) remain still ruling the plains of Mara.

May they reign as symbols of the wild’s majesty and resilience.
