This is us, on our road trip to Nandi Hills that was nothing short of epic! 🌈

Imagine this: a convoy of our Silver Surfers 😍, rolling down the highway 🚗 , new members and old pals side by side, kicking off with breakfast and bonding before driving up to those sweeping views. And the fun didn’t stop there!

Fellow member Richard then opened up his Holiday Home to us 🤗 and we hit the jackpot of good times – singing and dancing, chilled beers, a feast of a lunch, and games galore – the laughter was contagious, the banter non-stop, and the sense of belonging? Off the charts! 🤗

This is what it means to be a Silver Surfer – to to a group that feels like home, to have endless fun, and to make memories that last. So, here’s to every laugh, every connection, and every member, new and seasoned, who makes this our absolute happy place! 💕💖

Caution : Here’s How Cyber Crimes play out with Seniors.

We have been grappling with a series of cyber attacks on members at Silver Surfers in the last few days (and we’re hearing of many more outside SS) where seniors are being targetted, and duped with large sums of money gone untraceable.

This message is for everyone here who has a senior in their circles who uses a mobile device. Please beware and please do make them now.

Here’s how it played out > Fellow member Nupur’s narration :

For me the whole hack started with a message from a fellow member (and friend’s) what's app number.

The ‘helpless’ message said l “I have sent you a number on your mobile by mistake. Can you please send it back to me?”

I asked where the number was sent as I have not received.

The response was - “on my sms!”

Thinking this dialogue was with my friend Sita, I sent that number and I immediately got locked out of my What's App!

Not just that, my what's app was being controlled by someone else!!

Sita had been hacked before me so I was actually questioning the hacker himself.

Each time I tried to log back in the 6 digit code being sent by what's app was not being delivered to my number. Obviously it was going to the Hackers mobile.

I was asked to try after 10 to 12 hrs again.

The hacker was ensuring I was not allowed in

In the meantime he reached most of my contacts with the usual helpless msg saying I was in desperate need for money so to help by sending through gpay. He also added some other gpay number. His Own!

I immediate froze all my bank accounts.
Luckily for me most of my contacts called me directly to understand the situation. I had also uploaded a warning on FB.

One person sent 8k but except for him no one else transferred.

Thing is Dipti this hacker realises that all our contacts have come to know that my what's app has been hacked so he is not going to get any money at all. Holding on to my What's app was useless fir him

After about 20 hours (yesterday evening) I logged into what's app but here's the thing -

When what's app was sending the 4 digit code, I was given 3 options to choose from
1. My own sms
2. A missed call
3. Or the sms of another number which I didn't recognize. ( Hacker )

Obviously I chose my own sms and got the code.

Thereafter I was successfully logged in to my WhatsApp!!

I was told that if I can log into what's app successfully- the hacker would be logged out by what's app.

Also I was told to do a passkey *or 2 step verification to ensure this app was safe moving on.*

Some key actionables for ALL SENIORS

1. DO NOTHING - do not react, respond or believe any message you get unless you call and verify the sender to be authentic.

2. ⁠IGNORE REQUESTS : These hackers have control ONLY if they gain access to your phones. And they gain access ONLY if you follow through with the steps they share under the guise of someone you know.

3. ⁠IMMEDIATE 2 STEP VERIFICATION : Incorporate the WhatsApp security feature - 2 step verification

4. CHANGE ALL PASSWORDS: across all UPI, Phone and Net Banking features

5. Use online banking on your laptops instead of phones.

I’m Usha Ramanath, and I was one of the early members of the Silver Surfers Club. I had to step away for a while when I moved to Yelahanka, but looking back, I think I missed out on a lot of the fun. I’m excited to rejoin the community and can’t wait to be a part of everything again!

A little about me: I used to run a successful business called Totally Woman, which I’m proud to say had a great run. Now, I’m retired and focus on writing. I’ve authored two books, and my third is set to be published either by the end of this year or early next year.

Looking forward to reconnecting and having fun with everyone!

🌳✨ This morning, a small gang of morning enthusiast Silver Surfers met up at Cubbon Park for a delightful start to the day! ☀️

We kicked off with a refreshing walk, followed by some soulful singing 🎶 and playful puppy love 🐶. And what better way to wrap it up than with crispy dosas and filter coffee? 😋

Being out in nature, laughing, climbing trees, and embracing our inner child made for a perfect start to the day. 💖
