"Sharmili" - The late old queen from Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve.

This was my debut trip to this beautiful forest. We started off with the Bijrani zone and were greeted this famous old queen fondly called as "Sharmili". She had already her canines and shortly after this sighting a few later she was confirmed to have ascended. She was also my very first tiger in the reserve and that too on these beautiful white rocked river bed.

The beautiful lady of the lake at the time (Arrowhead) from Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.

I was leading a full day safari tour at Ranthambore as we scoured the beautiful hill and rocky terrain of the tiger centric Ranthambore forest. Getting the usual sighting of tigers sitting in the water or crossing the road or even walking like this beauty but this was a special moment. Let me elaborate, as soon as the morning normal safari vehicles left the reserve, we kept exploring the terrain with our full day permits. We started to head towards the gate of Zone 3 to freshen up a bit, but this big cat had a different idea. As we almost approached the gate (few meters), She emerged from the forest and started to walk on the safari track as we kept reversing. We were the only ones there and spent the entire afternoon till the evening safari vehicle came in. She walked, marked her territory, stalked and also charged and took down a little deer fawn on the banks of the famous fort's lake.

A time well spent in the Mara with the then Topi pride helmed by the two Kings ( Late. Lipstick & Late. Blackie). These two little one were the future of the pride along side another of their sibling that was killed by a small herd of buffalo right in front of our eye a day before. These two unfortunately did not survive either as one of them was later on killed by a masai spear a few days after this photo was taken. Part and parcel of the African wild, which has been this way for centuries 😢

A young tigress from Tadoba. (Subadult of Choti Tara)

We had started our safari from Moharli and headed towards Choti Tara's territory. Hardly 10 mins into the safari the queen herself (Choti Tara) was walking towards us. She kept walking ahead of us as we kept reversing for over 20 mins before we let he go on her way. The excitement of seeing a tiger on our very first safari was at it peak when a few meters from where we left her, her subadult daughter emerged from the forest and gave us some quality time on the safari track as she sat on the safari track and kept grooming herself before she went into the forest and we let her be. Cats have some amazing flexibility, imagine a normal human being capability of such dexterity 😱

A gorgeous tigress from Kabini

This beautiful tigress is fondly known as the backwater tigress as she looks as well as walks the same path as her late father the mighty backwater male. We had started making our way out after the evening safari and though to check a waterhole near the entrance of this route. We reached the spot to see this beauty walking into the forest. A few of the vehicles reversed back and decided to wait out the reminder time for a chance to get her again as she is known to venture the same path as her father and sure enough after 5 min she emerges giving her fans a wonderful lowlight catwalk.

While on safari at Jim Corbett’s Bijrani zone we encountered a herd of elephants in front of us on the hilly tracks. We kept a distance and kept following them over the span of an hour. At one juncture this young tusker kept misbehaving with the herd and the Matriarch charged at him, disciplining him. It did take us by surprise as we had just come out of the corner to witness the same.

Maya the tigress smelling a Ghost tree at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

This beautiful tigress is fondly called “Maya” and is one of the most photographed and boldest tigers of the reserve. We were waiting at this junction as we had got word of a tiger sighting in the vicinity as there was a kill and after waiting for about an hour or so, she emerged with her belly full crossing the track ahead, she walked to this ghost tree and scent marked it before heading back into the forest.

The elusive Black Panther from Kabini taken way back in 2017!

This was my very first time photographing this elusive "Black Panther" from Kabini. A last minute extension of our plans to stay back for one night more turned out to be the best decision my Dad and I made as we were gifted with this wonderful sighting of the majestic and elusive Black cat. This photo was taken on a very misty morning at about 6:50am which made focusing this cat a challenge due to its all black coat.

This amazing Leopard greeted us as soon as arrived at the Masai Mara National Reserve, hardly few meters from the Ol Kimono airstrip. It was one of the best ways to start the trip, where we had not even checked in to our camp for the journey. We spent the entire day with this beautiful cat where it had killed a little Gnu (wildebeest) at the base of this tree and would often come down to eat it before a hyena came and compelled it to take the carcass up on another tree. We skipped lunch & checked into the camp at night 😅

This leopard is believed to be the son of “Bahati”.

Tigress (Late Jr. Kankatti & one of her cubs) from Bandhavgarh

A trip to remember as a group of friends from Dubai and I had a wonderful time with these big cats and some even had a fantastic time with some leopards as well. Summertimes are among the best times to see these big cats as they are kind of easier to spot with a simple strategy of waiting near a water body, in this case, it was this artificial waterhole. As soon as we entered the forest during this morning safari we headed to this water hole and waited it out when eventually this beautiful tigress "Jr. Kankatti" came out to quench her thirst and soon this cub followed. Later on they were joing by the rest of the cubs but thats for another post. Having the right strategy from an experienced guide/driver and patience yeild such beautiful wild moments.

Sind saw-scaled Viper from the deserts of the UAE.

Who knew that a tourist destination like the deserts of the UAE would house such beautiful yet dangerous little critters. This beautiful Sind saw-scaled viper was photographed on my very first herping escapade into the dunes with friends in the dead of night. Using led soft lights we scoured the dunes for tracks left by any creature and we follow them, in this case, we found this beautiful yet deadly snake.

Maya the tigress from Tadoba

When one thinks of TATR / Tadoba, immediately this beautiful tigress comes to mind, called "Maya" she is one of the most photographed tigers of India, and rightly so as she does not shy away from anything. On this morning safari as all the jeeps made their rounds from afar we could see two jeeps reversing really slowly and then stopping only to start reversing after a few seconds, "Tiger"! As the route, they were on was a one-way all we could do was wait it out for them and this tigress to come towards us against the morning light. We stood our ground at one predetermined spot whilst the other jeeps kept going up and down only to see the tigress. Our vantage point made for some really beautiful backlit soft images of this beautiful striped beauty.

Tigress from Bandipur

This was my last visit to Bandipur way back in 2019 with the company of my amazing dad and his cousins from land out far. Dad and I took them on a short safari stay at Bandipur and we landed up with an amazing solo sighting on the morning safari of this beautiful tigress walking through the morning mist straight towards us. We had already driven on this safari track and waited it out at a junction ahead, we just started to roll onto another track when a single alarm call from a deer halted us in our tracks and made us turn around to meet this beauty. She walked towards us marking her territory all the way for about 15 to 20 mins before another jeep came and she walked off into the thick Bandipur bush.

Scarface the leopard from Kabini

This amazing trip with my dad was one to remember as this was the trip I got to photograph the mighty black panther for the very first time as well as get some clean images of a tiger and this amazing leopard. To come back to this famous leopard from Kabini fondly called "Scarface" gave us some exclusive sighting time during this safari. We were heading to the main road to try another area of the forest and as we were hardly about 1 km away our driver uttered those magic words "leopard, leopard, ...." and scarface was making his way towards us giving us some quality time to photograph him and take some videos of his natural behavior.

An Asiatic Wild Dog aka Dhole from Kabini

I had just got my hands on some new equipment and Nikon had also given me their brand new 120-300mm lens for testing, which prompted a short visit to Kabini. On our very first evening monsoon-hit safari, we headed to the territory of the black ghost (Panther) and were greeted with this small pack of Wild Dogs. This one posed for us on this fallen tree as well as gave us a short ramp walk too.

We were scouring the lush green forests of Kabini and about an hour into the safari, we took a turn to literally bump into this beautiful tigress on that blind curve. We drove back quite a bit to wait for her to come back to the road and sure enough she waltzes right on towards us before something caught her attention in the forest and off she went.

The majestic "Arrowhead" from Ranthambore.

Being on a full-day safari has its perks, there are hardly any other vehicles and you get to spend the entire day from dawn to dusk in the forest tracking and spending time with such beautiful animals. This beautiful tigress is fondly called "Arrowhead" and she was the Queen of the lakes at Ranthambore until recently where her daughter "Ridhi" has taken over. Arrowhead here was on a stalking spree during the middle of the day and she used this hilltop as a vantage point to pinpoint her prey. Shortly after this moment, she crossed in front of us to lunge into the bushes to take down a deer fawn.
