Katerra Design has won 1st place in ' The Housing Puzzle - Design & Build Competition' curated by Archdais for a notable developer.

Our design will be executed on an identified 6 acre parcel of land in Pune. Fantastic effort by our Design Team at Katerra! Kudos. Our Proposal has been shortlisted as the winner amongst 240+ teams & 550+ Participants from all over the World.

The aim of this competition was to design an apartment housing complex with a view to resolve these issues of monotony, placelessness and isolation with regard to real-time constraints of area and considerations of construction type, budget and building bye-laws. With an urge to value the experience of community living, and at the same time break free from the monotonous block model of urban housing, this Design-And-Build competition allows the winning design to be selected for actual ex*****on of the project.

Katerra India has won the prestigious DFNI 2021 Award in the “Best New Shop Opening” category. The award went to Kannur Airport Duty Free Store, designed and built by Katerra India. The Duty-Free News International (DFNI) announced this in their Asia Pacific Awards 2021 ceremony.

This project holds a special place among all the completed projects as it was one of the first projects that faced the challenges of the pandemic times. The design team had to swiftly respond to the needs of the post-pandemic world and the Build-team had to overcome unprecedented challenges that arose due to the several lock-down restrictions and ensuring utmost safety of the crew.

On the design front, extensive research of passenger preferences, buying patterns and retail strategy went into the store-planning. Keeping in mind the high traffic of a duty-free shop and its high visibility, the design ensured easy passenger-flow, intuitive signage, functional yet aesthetically designed lighting, and a seamless design flow unifying the store’s design with that of the Terminal. Special emphasis was laid to embrace the local essence of Kannur, expressed through the fish pattern ceilings, and the use of materials like brass with wood finishes.

Deepu S Prakash, Senior Director & Business Head of Katerra Design, says “The retail experience in the Airports today is more than just the products. They are becoming more personalized. Our design thinking for the Duty Free is focused on interjecting creativity and design to put new momentum behind retail proposition. By developing a compelling & inspired design, our intent is to create engaging multi-sensory and rewarding experience for every traveler.”

Shaikh Umar Sharif, Associate Director – Design & Build, under whose leadership the project was delivered, says, “The Build-team of Katerra India completed this award-winning project upholding high levels of quality at all levels. The project was demanding in terms of its timelines and ex*****on process, as it had to be built in a fully functional airport terminal, without disrupting the ongoing operations. In-spite of all the odds, both on-site and off-site, the team meticulously planned each task to ensure quality user-experience and high client satisfaction.”
