Two weeks of pure indulgence,where i did not count my calories, ate at all the "must eat" places from -this eatery is walking distance from my home ,a non descript place has all the instagrammers and RJ's flocking it for breakfast and lunch, late evenings were at sipping chai and watching sunset on the beach . Kannur has become a foodie haven and if you have not experienced it ,watch this space ,as i would be launching a tour for interested foodies on a to Kannur and explore the sights ,sound and cuisine through a passionate Kannurian .

"Neerali" Nirachu Porichathu ,to me was the super star this week ,though not many orders for this new entrant , guess it's an acquired taste for squid ,crabs & mussels.I loved creating this dish due to my craze for sea food and especially Squid(Calamari) .Had tasted this dish only once at some way side restaurant enroute to Kannur and always wanted to recreate it in my kitchen.So last week ,i attempted the same and was introduced the same day in the menu.Fresh squid tubes are stuffed with fried chopped pieces of tentracles and other Malabari spices and shallow fried . Well have to say ,had some family over for drinks and dinner that night and this one was the SUPERSTAR last Saturday and some awesome reviews from the ones who ordered it as well 😍

"Kuttanadan Marpapa"yude Karimeen Pollichathu was the superstar this weekend..It's a classic ,ⁿspeciality from the Kuttanadan region - backwaters, from where you can source the best Karimeen. Tasted this dish during my college hostel days, my roomie s dad took us all out for lunch to Grand Hotel -Cochin ,which is famous for Karimeen Pollichathu. That taste stayed in my heart forever ,years later ,my travel industry business visits brought me to Kumarakom and Alleppey and had the best Karimeen Pollichathu aboard a Houseboat cruising through the backwaters ,buying Fresh Karimeen from the fisherfolk , which was cooked for us by the chef on board ..washing it down with some Fresh Toddy. It's one of the must do things for any tourist traveling to Kerala and all itineraries will include a visit to the local restaurant to savour this speciality. Dedicated to Varghese Chettan who was the chef on board , who showed me the authentic way of creating the Karimeen Pollichathu .

For me it's sighting of Dilli Gajjar at the vegetable shop ,notifies the arrival of Winter .It also sets my mood on my annual ritual of cooking Gajjar Ka Halwa - one of my most favourite sweet dish .This reminds me of my short stay stint at a barsaati in Gujranwala town .The only fond memories of that period was the crispy Gajjar Ka Halwa simmering over a tawa at Delhi Model town market and the sunday Chole Bhatura at Kamla market.Maaji my landlord,patiently taught me to cook most of the Punjabi dishes ,only condition was that on Sundays I had to make them Dosa & Saambhrrrr😜. Gajjar Ka Halwa has to be made with a lot of love and immense patience ,since it has to be cooked over slow fire for over 3-4hrs . After 4hrs the kitchen has a heavenly smell of Cardamom ,Dry fruits .Last fifteen years,i have been using the AMC vessel for making Gajjar Halwa, used only two tsp of Ghee for 1kg of Gajjar.

"Christian Brother's" Pidiyum Kozhi Curryum was our star Performer last week.One of my Syrian Christian dish favorites, introduced to me by my best friend Gigy, at the annual Easter Lunch at her home . I was blown with the Pidi and Chicken Curry combo and found some similarities to our Malabari Kakka roti ,but once the flavours rolled in ,realized it was totally different.I have tasted many versions of this ,but loved this recipe the best .This dish is a tribute to our long lasting friendship and yes she did taste it and gave me a superlike on the combo .Enjoy the pictorial journey and order the same next time on our menu .
