Within two months of the launch, SpiceJet discontinued its direct flight from Hyderabad to Ayodhya, effective June 1.

The Gurugram-based airline's inaugural thrice-weekly flight took off on April 2, with flight SG 611 departing Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at 10.45 a.m. and arriving at Ayodhya’s Maharishi Valmiki International Airport at 12:45 p.m.

The return flight, SG 616, left Ayodhya at 1:25 p.m. and landed back at RGIA at 3:25 p.m.

As of February, the airline was connecting eight Indian cities to Ayodhya, but since then, it has terminated direct flights from six of them: Chennai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Patna, Darbhanga and Hyderabad.

Presently, SpiceJet only offers direct flights to from Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Now, SpiceJet's Hyderabad to Ayodhya flight involves a layover at Delhi’s IGI Airport, with a total flight time of seven hours and 25 minutes.

Budget carrier IndiGo has announced new routes offering direct connectivity between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad)-North Goa, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Nagpur, and one-stop connectivity between Nagpur and North Goa with a stopover at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Starting July 2, 2024, all the new flights will operate thrice-weekly on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The direct flights between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and will drastically reduce travel time from over 14 to just 2 hours.

Similarly, the new direct flights connecting Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and will trim the journey from nearly 5 to 1.5 hours.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly Aurangabad, is known to be the tourism capital of Maharashtra. The city has some of the most famous cave temples and offers tempting Mughlai cuisine.

The city has a rich cultural heritage and is home to several historical monuments, including the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora Caves.

In a bid to control the overcharging of taxi fares between Nathula and , the Sikkim government has fixed the fares of different vehicles for travel between the two places.

According to an order issued by the Principal Secretary (Tourism & Civil Aviation Department) C S Rao, the fare for luxury and non-luxury vehicles have been fixed at ₹7,000 and ₹6,500, respectively, including the permit charge, for a round trip between and Gangtok with immediate effect.

The aggrieved travellers may contact the department on 9434182178, Police Check Post on 7908081127 and Transport Department on 9434126851 for any issues related to charging of excess fares.

The department has also capped the limit of permits for Nathula to be issued by it at 800 vehicles up to June 30.

The largest airline in India and budget carrier—IndiGo—will introduce a tailor-made business product on the country’s busiest and business routes by the end of this year.

In its 18 years of existence, IndiGo has championed the one-size-fits-all single-class cabin configuration.

IndiGo is also working on launching a loyalty programme, which is usually associated with full service carrier (FSC) products.

The decision to introduce a business class cabin on select domestic routes can be followed by offering a business class product on its international routes as well.

Moreover, the airline recently announced its plans to enter the long-haul market with an order of 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft. So far, IndiGo has operated a fleet of over 350 narrow-body aircraft, except for two Boeing 777 planes that are on damp lease and are exclusively used to operate flights to and from Istanbul.

The announcement to launch the new business product and record aircraft orders is a testament to its plan to expand its horizon and offerings.

For the year ended March 2024, IndiGo reported a net profit of INR 81,725 million.

The Indian government is looking to introduce electric buses on long-distance routes.

The latest initiative, part of efforts to speed up the country's transition to green mobility, is aimed at interstate passenger transport.

On an estimate, 1.25-1.45 million buses, mostly diesel-based, operate on intercity or interstate routes. This includes around 250,000 state government-controlled transport utilities.

Reportedly, a senior government official told the Economic Times that the viability of electric buses on long routes has been established for up to eight to nine hours of continuous travel.

The Indian government supported electric buses currently used for city transport through the FAME India subsidy. A similar support scheme may be launched, or the existing one can be extended for interstate transportation.

Also, more charging infrastructure, including fast chargers on vital routes, will be established along highways.

According to a top executive of global technology and digital talent solutions provider NLB Services, the travel and tourism sector is all set to add 58.2 million jobs across India by 2033, given the continued growth momentum.

With a 44% spike in talent demand in tourism in August 2023, 1.6 million additional jobs were expected to be added in the calendar year 2023. The sector contributed ₹15.9 lakh crore ($191.25 billion) to India's economy in 2022 and was estimated at INR 16.5 lakh crore for 2023.

India's tourism and hospitality industry can generate over USD 59 billion in revenue by 2028. Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) can reach the anticipated 30.5 million by the same period.

The latest tourism data indicates an annual growth of 305.4% in FTAs in 2023, with 9.23 million foreign tourists visiting India.

1,93,445 domestic tourists and 3,435 foreigners visited Mizoram in the year 2023, the state tourism department said.

Americans, with 1,162 tourists, topped the list of foreigners visiting the northeastern state. Tourists from Japan, Australia, Israel, Canada, the UK and other countries also visited Mizoram.

The tourist footfall in 2022-23 was over 2.22 lakh, with 2.18 lakh domestic tourists and 3,551 foreigners.

Renowned engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce announced that IndiGo has agreed to place its first-ever order for Trent XWB-84 engines.

IndiGo, which flies to more than 110 domestic and international destinations and has carried 100 million passengers in 2023, will get 60 Trent XWB-84 engines.

As part of the agreement, the health and maintenance of the engines will be covered by Rolls-Royce’s comprehensive TotalCare service.

On Sunday, the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, announced the world's largest airport for Dubai, which will cost nearly $35 billion.

Once fully operational, the upgraded Al Maktoum International Airport will become the world's largest airport, capable of handling 260 million passengers.

He outlined the ambitious airport plans, including the construction of five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates, at an estimated cost of AED 128 billion or $35 billion over the next decade.

Designed to be the nucleus of Dubai South, the airport will be a planned economic zone spanning a vast area of 55 sq. miles and is poised to emerge as a thriving hub for commerce and innovation.

The endeavour aims to further position Dubai as the epitome of global connectivity and urban sophistication. Reportedly, the project will also lead to the development of an entire city around the mega airport.

Starting May 15, 2024, India's leading airline, IndiGo, will commence daily direct flights between Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh and Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Ferrari World, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Yas Island are some of the iconic tourist attractions of Abu Dhabi.

The inaugural flight will depart from Abu Dhabi at 10.15 pm on May 15 and reach Chandigarh at 3.30 am (local time), early hours of May 16. From Chandigarh, the first flight will take off at 2.45 am (local time) on May 16 and reach Abu Dhabi at 5.15 am (local time).

With this addition, IndiGo now operates 63 weekly flights to Abu Dhabi from 9 Indian cities.

India's inaugural helicopter yatra to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat has been launched by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) in collaboration with Noida-based Trip to Temples. The former has authorised the latter to accept Yatra registration and for non-heli part operations management.

The helicopter initiative enables devotees to undertake a one-day aerial darshan of both sites, with return journeys on the same day.

Traditionally, pilgrims were required to indulge in arduous treks and have to walk for days to seek the divine presence of Adi Kailash — nestled within the ethereal Vyas and stands as a sanctuary of spiritual enlightenment — or witness the awe-inspiring natural spectacle of Om Parvat. Then, in 2021, a combination of car rides and walks started to ease the journey after the construction of a few roads but remained restricted to specific months.

The initiative's another interesting feature is commencing on 15 April: A five-day helicopter yatra with convenient departures from will facilitate pilgrims' access to these divine realms. With helicopters landing near the holy sites, the need for extensive walking is minimised, ensuring a seamless and comfortable journey for devotees.

The inaugural flight on 2 April received a warm welcome at Kangra-Gaggal Airport (DHM), which serves areas of Kangra, including Dharamshala, with a traditional water cannon salute, signifying a significant milestone in regional connectivity.

IndiGo operates ATR flights to places such as DHM airport. These aircraft are compact and smaller compared to the carrier's other aircraft.

After resuming services to Pakyong in Sikkim from Delhi and Kolkata, effective March 31, 2024, SpiceJet has commenced the operations of nonstop flights from Hyderabad to Ayodhya.

The Delhi-Pakyong route is operational five days a week, while the Kolkata-Pakyong flights are operating daily. As for the Hyderabad-Ayodhya route, the service is thrice-weekly.

For these routes, the airline will utilise a combination of Boeing 737 and Q400 aircraft, ensuring passengers experience efficient and comfortable travel. SpiceJet is adding a new Q400 plane from Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) to its fleet, and it already has 5 Q400s.

During the 2023-24 financial year, more than 4 million tourists, including nearly 35,000 foreigners, visited the century-old Mysuru Palace. With 5.5 lakh, May 2023 saw the highest number of monthly visitors. The lowest was 2 lakh in March 2024.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the highest-ever tourist footfall was 38.6 lakh during 2017-18.

The FY 2022-23 saw 33.9 lakh tourists, including 23,168 foreigners.

The palace is a three-storied structure in the Indo-Saracenic style, built between 1897-1912. It was designed by the English Architect Henry Irwin.

In its latest data for January 2024, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), surged by 16.6%, marking a significant uptick. Concurrently, total capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), witnessed an impressive rise of 14.1%.

On the other hand, ICRA, a leading rating agency, has forecasted India's domestic air passenger traffic is projected to grow by 8 to 13% in FY2024, reaching an estimated 150-155 million passengers, a notable increase from the pre-COVID levels of 141.2 million seen in FY2020.
