AKUCHIATAL :- (1218 MT) At a distance of just 24 km from Nainital and about 4 kms from BhimTal - lies the mystique lake with 9 corners or or the ' Nine - Cornered - Lake '. Surrounded by dense forested hills on all sides it provides solace from the maddening rush of the plains.
Naukuchiatal is nourished by an underwater spring, which keeps its water levels high. Naukuchiatal Lake is the deepest lake in the Lake District of India (Nainital) and lost in acres of oak forest in the lesser Himalayas.
A Myth about Naukuchiatal: It is believed by the locals that whoever sees all the nine corners of the lake at one shot, attains Nirvana. Pretty views of terraced fields and meadows make this lake destination an enjoyable stopover.
नौकुचियाताल भीमताल से ४ किलोमीटर दक्षिण-पूरब समुद्र की सतह से १२९२ मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है। नैनीताल से इस ताल की दूरी २६.२ कि॰मी॰ है। यह ९८३ मीटर लम्बी, ६९३ मीटर चौड़ी और ४० मीटर गहरी है। इस नौ कोने वाले ताल की अपनी विशिष्ट महत्ता है। इसके टेढ़े-मेढ़े नौ कोने हैं। इस अंचल के लोगों का विश्वास है कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति एक ही दृष्टि से इस ताल के नौ कोनों को देख ले तो उसे मोक्ष प्राप्ति हो जाती है। परन्तु वास्तविकता यह है कि सात से अधिक कोने एक बार में नहीं देखे जा सकते।
