On this auspicious day of Ashtami, during Navratras, this absolutely fabulous, really heavy and antique bronze statue of Nandi, decided to be a part of our family.

For friends who are not well versed with the Hindu deities and its mythologies, Nandi, also known as Nandikeshvara or Nandideva, is the bull vahana (mount) of the Hindu god Shiva. He is also the guardian deity of Kailash, the abode of Shiva. Almost all Shiva temples display stone-images of a seated Nandi, generally facing the main shrine.

Nandi is described as the son of the sage Shilada. Shilada underwent severe penance to have a boon– a child with immortality and blessings of Shiva, and received Nandi as his son. Legends say that Nandi was born from a yajna performed by Shilada. Nandi grew up as an ardent devotee of Shiva and he performed severe penance to become his gate-keeper, as well as his mount, on the banks of river Narmada.

It is said that if you want to pass on any message to the Lord, or if you want any wishes fulfilled, all you have to do is to whisper it in the ears of Nandi, and hopefully it will be fullfilled. So whenever we go to any Shiva temple, we do it always.

And now we can do it in our own courtyard! Are'nt we blessed!

Somehow, earlier when I looked at my Courtyard, I always felt a void, as if something was missing! Now it feels complete!

When someone tells you that you're beautiful, believe them. They aren't lying.

For every woman unhappy with her stretch marks is another woman who wishes she had them !

You should definitely have more confidence. And if you saw yourself the way others see you, you would !

Don't look for a man to save you. Be able to save yourself.

It's okay to not love every part of your body....but you should.

We all have that one friend who seems to have it all together. That woman with the seemingly perfect life. Well, you might be that woman to someone else.

You should be a priority. Not an option, a last resort, or a backup plan.

You're a woman. That alone makes you pretty damn remarkable.

There is so much more to Kutch than only the White Rann.

Before Rann Utsav or the Rann festival started we had tourists all round the year for its textiles and crafts, for its temples and religious shrines, for its flora and fauna, for the small village fares or festivals, for rabari weddings, for photography i can go on and on...
We totally agree that its very hot during the summers, but what about monsoons.
Kutch as a destination is beautiful during this time. The weather is pleasant and there are hordes of place to see and hordes of things to do.
There is LLDC museum for its intensive research and extensive insight into the embroideries, folklores and lives of different communities of Kutch. There id Ajrakhpur for the very famous ajrakh blockprinting.
There is the Vande Matram museum for a peek into the history of Indian independence.
There is Aina mahal, Pragmahal, Kutch museum for a delve into art and history.
There is Smriti van and the science centre.
There is the grand canyon of India - Kadiya dhro or Kaaliya dhrow for its beautiful rock formation and unsurpassed natural beauty that looks stunning during the rains.
There are ancient temples like Lakhpat and Koteshwar and new ones with intricate carvings like the Swaminarayan temple.
There is Vijay Vilas Palce and the Mandvi beach.
There is rogan art, bell making, lacquer work, bhujodi weaving, mud work, pottery and then there is The Kutchh Courtyard.
You just come for a family get together or just individually, to get away from the noise of city life to soak in its peace and serenity, to see the rain falling right inside the house, to just sit in your verandah and sip innumerable cups of chai with onion fritters and read a book, while the rain drops caress your cheeks...

When nature writes music, i am sure its something like this!

Every pain, every worry, every sorrow that made your heart heavy will bury itself into earth's fissured spine!

A very late start to the day today. For a change, no guests at The Kutchh Courtyard, so could afford to indulge in sleeping a bit more than usual. The maasi who takes care of our daily temple rituals and cleaning, sadly slipped during the rains, had a bad fall and a bad fracture in her arm. So I exchanged places with her and now, do the temple cleaning and the necessary daily rituals. Have a lot of work pending, but I think today I will just let myself drift. Take it easy. Do what I can and leave the rest for the next. To take it easy on a beautiful day like this, is a luxury I can't afford to let go.
In the meantime I enjoy my bowl full of watermelon, sitting in the gazebo, looking at the lovely lusciously green, rain fed garden, beautiful flowers, listening to the birds chirping, right over my head....I seriously hope I don't get a hangover!!!

Meet Manjari Makijany together with her sister Vinati Makijany at The Kutchh Courtyard.

One of the eight directors selected for the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women in 2016, Manjari has been basking in the limelight for her short film I See You, which has been doing phenomenally well in the international sphere.
Amidst the dearth of women directors in tinsel town, one young woman from India has been venturing into the world of international cinema and is making more than just a name.

Eldest daughter of Mac Mohan who had forever immortalised the role of Samba in the film Sholay, Majari was awarded the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation Grant during the AFI programme for her story. I See You was one among few films at the Emerging Filmmakers showcase at the American Pavilion in Cannes in 2016. The film will be next screened at the 40th Asian American International Film Festival on July 27.

Earlier this year, Manjari, was selected as one of the 25 women directors from AFI for the 2017 Fox Filmmakers Lab, an initiative launched with the aim of increasing the number of women directing major studio films.

We were happy to host her and her entire family at The Kutchh Courtyard.
