The Kushana period is considered to be much advanced in the history of Indian Art. The sculptures of Buddha were made for the very first time during this era. The terracotta mini-sculptures of Buddha’s head are very important amongst the artifacts found from the relics of Gandhara region in the north western part of India, because these display the impact of Greek culture in its style of hairdos and other minor details. These are clear proof of the close relations between India and Greece in those times.

Close to the banks of the Ganges, in Patna, stands the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library a unique repository of about 21000 Oriental manuscripts and 2.5 lakh printed books. Though founded earlier, it was opened for public in October, 1891 by the illustrious son of Bihar Khan Bahadur Khuda Bakhsh with 4,000 manuscripts, of which he inherited 1,400 from his father Maulvi Mohammed Bakhsh.
Khuda Bakhsh Khan donated his entire personal collection to the people of Patna by a deed of trust. Acknowledging the immense historical and intellectual value of its rich and valued collection, the Govt. of India declared the Library an Institution of National Importance by an act of Parliament in 1969. The Library is now fully funded by the Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India).

Today I visited the world's oldest and biggest cattle fair the Sonpur Mela.
Though famous as a cattle fair, Sonepur Mela has a common proverb to its name which goes as: One can buy everything in Sonepur Mela, from a needle to an elephant. The saying, however, does not hold any longer, for the sale and purchase of elephants has been declared illegal since 2004, after the implementation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Till date it is one of the biggest cattle fairs of asia and stretches on from fifteen days to one month. It has origins from ancient times when chandragupta maurya (340-297 BCE) used to buy elephants and horses across the river ganges. Today it has become a fusion of traditional as well as modern activities which ranges from historical snan at different ghats and visiting temples to stalls and amusement parks .It has stalls of different government departments along with showcasing local artists and cattle traders.
