Winter, which embraces Spiti Valley in the first week of November, and stays on until the fourth week of March, may not be the easiest time to travel through Spiti Valley valley, but certainly is the most rewarding time to come visit.

Everything – every house, hamlet, road and village – dons a cloak of white. The cottony snow is constant - stretching on for as far as the eye can see. The horizon is a myth, for you can never tell where land ends and the skies begin.

As winter sets in, Spiti Valley assumes a timeless nature – like an enchanting postcard waiting for you to dive right in. With temperatures going below -20 degrees centigrade, the Spiti river has more or less frozen up. A few defiant streams tirelessly cut through the ice, giving a surreal glazed feel to the basin.

During these months, the famous Manali – Rohtang Pass – Kunzum La – Kaza road closes due to heavy snowfall. Hence, the only way of reaching Spiti Valley is through the Hindustan – Tibet Highway (Shimla – Kalpa – Kaza). You will be using this road both ways – to enter and exit Spiti Valley.

The largest freshwater lake in Northeast India, the pristine Loktak Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Manipur. Known for its floating circular swamps, which are called phumdis in the local tongue, the lake invites tourists from far and wide for its ethereal beauty. These swamps look almost like islands and are a mass of soil, organic matter and vegetation.

The lake houses the only floating national park in the world, the Keibul Lamjao National Park, which is the last refuge of the endangered brow-antlered deer or sangai, Manipur's state animal. In addition, the lake shelters about 230 species of aquatic plants, 100 types of birds and 400 species of fauna like barking deer, sambar and Indian python. Loktak is a visual treat for birdwatchers, who can find species like black kite, East Himalayan pied kingfisher, northern hill myna, lesser eastern jungle crow, Burmese pied myna and lesser skylark.

Meteora is hands down one of the most impressive regions in Greece! Located on the northern side of Greece, Meteora is included in the World Heritage List. Dotted with towering rocks, it boasts a breathtaking landscape, creating otherworldly beautiful scenery! According to studies, these rocks were formed 60 million years ago, when weathering and earthquakes gave them their current shape.

On the top of the rocks sit the infamous Meteora monasteries, most of them constructed during the Byzantine times. They are the gems of Meteora! Although only 6 of the monasteries operate, they form the second biggest monastic community in Greece, after that of Mount Athos in Halkidiki.

Being one of the most-visited places in the country, Meteora Greece receives millions of visitors every year. Unsurprisingly, one of the best things to do in Meteora is hiking in nature and climbing the towering pinnacles.

Plansee is a lake in the Tyrol area in Western Austria, near the border of Germany. The lake is famous for its outstanding water quality as well as its turquoise color and scenic views of the mountains in the background.

It’s the second largest lake in Tyrol, and it is connected with Lake Heiterwang via a 300-meter long canal. It’s a popular place for hikers, cyclists, campers and basically anyone who loves beautiful nature.

With a maximum depth of 78 meters and a visibility of 15 meters on average, it’s also a great lake for divers.

There are several fish species living in Plansee as well, such as the rainbow trout, chars, European perches, and whitefish. Fishing is one of the most popular activities around the lake.

If not, then the author of the post probably has not visited them yet. Simply put, Leke Leke Waterfall is one of the most amazing waterfalls we have visited in Bali.

It isn’t the highest, or the most powerful. It doesn’t have the amount of water of some others, and isn’t as famous. What is DOES have is an understated beauty and tranquility that simply is not found anywhere else.

Phang Nga Bay is one of my favourite “hidden gems” in Thailand 🇹🇭 Located between Phuket and Krabi, Phang Nga is home to some of the most incredible islands and mangroves. You can actually get a long tail boat right where I shot this and cruise through the mangroves to get to an island called Ko Panyi!

Norway’s first Renaissance city, Fredrikstad was born in the 16th century on the orders of King Frederick II. You can take the path around the moat, see what you can find in the endearing little Old Town, and then storm the outlying forts seconds away at Isegran and Kongsten. Here the south side of the Oslo fjord, the sunniest region in Norway, the natural splendour may leave you lost for words.

You can see what we mean at dreamy granite coves, the throng of skerries and islets at Hvaler, and the immaculate royally property of Hankø Island.

The small villageof Solomeo, nestled in the picturesque hillside of central Italy’s Umbria region, has been faithfully restored by Cucinelli to celebrate its medieval heritage. With some modern touches, of course.

The once decaying bell tower of the Church of Saint Bartholomew, founded in the 12th-century, rebuilt in the 1700s, and now fully revitalized with an 18th century organ, stands tall over the Piazza della Pace (Square of Peace).

A 14th-century castle now serves as Cucinelli’s headquarters and a school that teaches courses on apparel making, tailoring, horticulture, landscaping and masonry.

The westernmost island of the Dodecanese Group, Astypalaia, boasts a centuries-old history, whitewashed villages, deep blue sea waters and sun-drenched beaches. The island, seen from above, has two distinct sections joined by a narrow stretch of land less than 100 m. wide.

The western part is known as Mesa Nisi [the inner island] and the eastern part as Exo Nisi [the outer island].

Chora is the island’s capital town and port. It is one of the most picturesque towns in the Aegean, perched on a rock that advances into the sea, forming two bays.

On the top, you will see Chora’s castle towering over the town with the strikingly white domes of Evangelistria and Agios Georgios churches, visible over the walls. Around the castle lie Chora’s houses with whitewashed walls, blue doors and windows, and wooden balcony rails.

As if plucked from a whimsical fairytale and set down upon the stark Anatolian plains, Cappadocia is a geological oddity of honeycombed hills and towering boulders of otherworldly beauty.

The fantastical topography is matched by the human history here. People have long utilised the region's soft stone, seeking shelter underground and leaving the countryside scattered with fascinating cavern architecture.

The fresco-adorned rock-cut churches of Göreme Open-Air Museum and the subterranean refuges of Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı are the most famous sights, while simply bedding down in one of Cappadocia's cave hotels is an experience in 21st-century cave living.
