Travelling Lens

Travelling Lens Travelling Lens creates unique and customized travel experiences. Our philosophy in creating each journey has been quite simple.

Our workshops and tours are a beautiful mix of adventure, relaxation, learning and a lot of fun. We would not do it any other way if we were doing it ourselves. Travelling Lens was created by a group of like-minded people who share a philosophy of travel that is rooted in three principles: safety, senses and slowness. Our itineraries and travel arrangements are designed to let your body slowly de-

stress and acclimatize to your destination. As your senses threaten to be overwhelmed by the incredible beauty of the landscape and culture, the pressures of city-living flow from your body and mind. A walk in the forest, a tough trek at high altitude or a simple swim in the ocean all become moments of transformation. We recognize that our tours are made extraordinary by the people that come on them. An impromptu community of interesting, informed and educated people makes each tour unique and exciting. When it comes to our workshops we draw inspiration from the Foundry Photo-Journalism Workshops and the incredible bunch of image-makers that gathers to inspire each other. Our workshops are modeled on a mentorship system that helps you find your own voice as an image-maker.

The Photo Seva

Fellow image-makers,

I invite you to ‘like’ the dedicated page for my long-term portraiture project ‘The Photo Seva’: where you will be able to follow my travels, view and share images and from time to time order both posters and collectible prints.

What began one afternoon at the Kumbh mela in 2013 has now become a lifelong obsession. Shooting with a large-format field camera on 4x5 B&W film, I work to photograph the Indian diaspora with a unique twist. Inspired by masters like Edward Curtis and August Sander, I seek to capture the identity of the people of this incredibly diverse country. As I travel, I employ a simple formula of ‘one for you and one for me;’ each subject goes away with an instant print of their own portrait and usually a big smile on their face.

Having completed more than 400 photographs over the last two years, I am determined more than ever before to continue this project for a long time to come. My goal is to reach an anthology of portraits that will contribute to the recorded history of this unique moment in the history of India.

I look forward to your support as I continue this journey.

FOLLOW THIS TO MY PAGE --> http://www.facebook.com/thephotoseva

Regards

Varun Gupta

The Photo Seva is a long-term portraiture project by India-based photographer Varun Gupta shot on 4x5 BW film. Each subject gets an instant print.

Another great reason to be at Chobi Mela, Photography Festival !!
A fantastic workshop by Swapan Parekh. Deadline for application is 10th December.

WORKSHOP by Swapan Parekh
"Shaping a Vision"
Application DEADLINE: December 10, 2014

Duration: 3 days
Date: Jan 25 to Jan 27, 2015
Seats: 12
Registration Fee: $120

Workshop participants will spend 3 days with Swapan where he will see individual bodies of work of participating photographers. The workshop will emphasize on slowing down and 'looking' at the work more meaningfully to think beyond ‘predetermined’ projects. There will be a flexible format of the workshop to take it as it goes. For the participants, it would be important to confront the parameter of any school of thought, where everything should be about a 'body of work'. As the workshop goes along, Swapan will also share his own journey as a photographer to discuss how an individual vision needs to shape up. And in addition, how to print one's work respectfully and what a good print should look like in parameters of both Colour and Black & White.
