It's a trek that leaves footprints not just in the snow but also in the heart, an experience that captures the essence of the Himalayas in all its breathtaking glory.

When we think about the Har Ki Dun trek, we always think of the ancient villages that we come across on the way.

But to reach those villages, you trek through a beautiful forest of oak and pine trees, with the gurgling Thamsa flowing right through it.

This is one of the most underrated sections of the trek.

In less than five minutes of starting your trek, you find yourself on an undulating trail right beside the Thamsa River.

You are constantly under a canopy of fresh green. Quaint old wooden bridges across the river appear out of nowhere, giving you great picture opportunities. You can cover miles on this trail without breaking a sweat.

You’ll notice that the coniferous forest gets denser as you go further. The narrow trail snakes through this dense dark forest for a good hour before opening up to the traces of civilization — the ancient village of Gangad.

The fact that we get to witness this rich biodiversity first hand on the trek is a big reason to do the trek.
