As the sun rose on a crisp morning, I set out on a day of birdwatching at a nearby nature reserve. Armed with my binoculars and camera, I wandered through the lush greenery in search of some avian friends.

The first bird to catch my eye was the elegant drongo, with its glossy black feathers shimmering in the sunlight. It flitted from branch to branch, seemingly showing off its acrobatic skills as it caught insects in mid-air.

Next up was the pied wagtail, a charming little bird with its distinctive black and white plumage. It hopped along the ground, wagging its tail cheerfully as it searched for food.

As I continued my stroll, I came across a collared-dove perched high in a tree, its soft cooing adding a peaceful soundtrack to the morning. Nearby, a red-vented bulbul sang a melodious tune, its red belly standing out against the green foliage.

I made my way towards a serene pond, where a cormorant stood majestically on a rock, its wings outstretched as it dried them in the sun. Nearby, an Indian spot-billed duck paddled lazily in the water, its vibrant orange bill adding a splash of color to the scene.

As I made my way back towards the entrance of the reserve, I was greeted by a flock of Pied Mynas, chattering away in their lively manner. They seemed to be having a spirited conversation amongst themselves, their black and white plumage shining in the sunlight.

It was a truly magical day of birdwatching, filled with wonder and awe at the beauty of the natural world. Each bird I encountered was a small masterpiece of nature, showcasing the incredible diversity and creativity of life. I couldn't wait to come back and explore more of this enchanting place, where every bird told its own unique story.

The Black-kite, with its sharp gaze, looked over the land from a high branch, while its relatives (Peahen) spread their wings in a show of strength. Nearby, a peaceful Eurasian-collared Dove sat quietly, a gentle contrast to the watchful hawks. In the underbrush, a solitary Shikra, a regal figure hidden in the greenery, kept its silent watch. And last, It’s striking white chest and dark plumage (White-breasted Waterhen) made it easy to spot against the greenery .Together, they created a picture of life's resilience and beauty, a testament to the stories unfolding in the heart of the wilderness.

But the true marvel of the Indian Hornbill lies in its familial bonds. For this noble bird is known for its extraordinary dedication to its mate. Every year, during the nesting season, the male hornbill embarks on a quest to gather food for his beloved partner, tirelessly scouring the forest in search of fruits and insects to sustain her.

Once his mission is complete, he returns to the nest, where his mate awaits him with eager anticipation. Together, they seal themselves inside a hollow tree trunk, with only a small opening through which the male passes the food to his mate and their young.

I settled into my spot, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to capture the essence of the wilderness. Time seemed to stretch on, each minute feeling like an eternity as I anticipated the arrival of the majestic tigress, Sonam from TATR.

Suddenly, breaking the serene silence of the surroundings, a powerful roar echoed across the water, sending shivers down my spine. With bated breath, I focused my camera, heart pounding with excitement and anticipation.

And then, like a fleeting shadow emerging from the depths of the forest, there she was – Sonam, the epitome of grace and power, stepping out from the dense foliage with an aura of regal magnificence.

Mesmerized by her presence, I dared not to move, fearing I might disturb the sanctity of the moment. To my astonishment, Sonam seemed to acknowledge my presence, her amber eyes meeting mine with an unspoken understanding.

With a silent exchange between us, she gracefully allowed me to capture her beauty, posing amidst the lush greenery and dappled sunlight. Each click of the shutter felt like a reverent tribute to the untamed splendor of the wilderness.

After behold her around 30 minutes, Sonam bid me farewell, disappearing into the shadows of the forest once more. But the memory of that magical encounter would forever be etched in my heart, a testament to the profound connection between humans and the wild.
