Snow Leopard Expedition in Spiti ft Rohan Travel Stories
From our Snow Leopard Expedition in Spiti last year, we bring to you a moving tale full of action, thrill, joy and adventure. Weaving an authentic narration with stunning visuals, Rohan Patkar (one of our participants from the batch), has managed to capture how the expedition exactly unfolds on ground. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did! π

The ForeRunners - Episode 2
The Forerunners: Episode 2 | On your trek, when you observe a trek leader closely, you will see that they wear multiple hats in a team.
They are the medics, the rescuers, the entertainers and the decision makers. Simply put, trek leaders form the backbone of the entire trekking team.
Which is why, the hiring process for a trek leader is one of the most elaborate procedures at Bikat Adventures.
It takes us 6 months to hire one trek leader. This begs the question: what exactly do we do during this time?
In todayβs episode, we answer this and show you more about the life of a trek leader outside of the treks and expeditions they lead π

The ForeRunners - Episode 1
We have seen what the life of a trek leader is like on the outside.
But we rarely get to know what happens behind the scenes.
In todayβs video we have tried to show you a glimpse of it.
This is the first episode of the series: The ForeRunners of Bikat Adventures.

How heli rescues are carried out on a trail:
On the Deo Tibba Expedition held earlier this month, one of our participants displayed symptoms of facial swelling and exhaustion when we were shifting camp from Base Camp to Camp 1. Noticing that the swelling did not reduce, the participant was brought back to the base camp to rest for the night.
The following day, her symptoms seemed to worsen. Deducing that it might be HASE (High Altitude Systematic Edema), our Expedition Leader, Vijay Pal Singh, promptly arranged for a Heli Rescue through the satellite phone. The participant was rescued at 4.30 in the evening that day between Chikka and Seri Campsites.
At the hospital, the swelling was diagnosed as a response to an allergic reaction the participant was going through. She has received treatment for the same and is doing well now :)
Successful Expeditions are not always about reaching the top. In most of the cases they are about making it back safely to the base. Critical thinking, prompt decision making skills, timely action and response can go a long way in deciding safety.
A clip of our recent batch of climbers coming down Kang Yatse II (6,250M) to make this a successful ascent for as they say, going up is only half the job done! π
Ascent on KY2
Climbing up is slow progress but a little motivation from co-climbers goes a long way to keep the overall morale up. A clip from our recent ascent on Kang Yatse II (6,250M).
It's always a good idea to know as much as you can about the mountain you are going to climb. Our Head of Expeditions, Somenath takes this year's team for Mt. Nun over some features of the mountain and stories from our past ascents on this 7,135M peak in Ladakh ahead of their climb.
Our batch leaves for Leh from Manali this morning!
Over the course of next 9 days they will cross not one, not two, but FIVE high-mountain passes with the highest being the infamous Khardung La Pass (5,359M). Each of these 5 passes has something unique to offer. With Khardung La being the highest motorable pass in the world, Bara Lachha La competes with it by being the loopiest of them all! Naki La and Lachu La are like twins standing next to each other whereas Rohtang Pass brings in all the surprises by being the most unpredictable and the moodiest of them all. But the toughest to cross is the Tanglang La Pass which rests in wait at an altitude of 5,360M.
This is not it! The Manali Leh cycling expedition is much more than its passes β one look at the Gata loops with all its 21 curves is enough to send a chill down your spine. The More plains which are one of the highest & coldest deserts in the world, a constant panoramic view of snow laden peaks riding alongside you and the glory of the many distinctly-coloured rivers like Chandra, Bhaga and Indus are only a few examples of awe this excursion has in store for you.
Update from KY1 expedition!
Seen in this footage is our expedition team inching towards summit camp. They will be occupying the summit camp in a short while. After a few hour's rest at summit camp, they will be making an attempt on KY1 tonight. We wish everyone all the very best. Stay tuned for more updates!
The climb may have been tough but the view from the top was definitely worth it π
Here's a shot of our climbers, taking a moment at the Summit of Mt. Deo Tibba, from our recent expedition there.
Congratulations to the entire team! Here's to many more safe and successful summits! β¨

Mt. Black Peak - 360 degree view
The best view comes after the hardest climb and the view from the top of Mt. Black Peak this season was better than the best π«
Walking across crevassed snowfields, climbing vertical icewalls, navigating glaciers and miles of rocky moraines all the while battling the continuously thinning air of altitude, our climbers finally made it to the top (6,387 M).
Here's a stunning 360 degree view of it π

Buran Ghati takes you to 4589M up and over a pass to the other side. This 8 day beauty has all that you could ask for - dense forests, a gorgeous trail, glacial lake, glistening streams, a mesmerizing panoramic view from the pass and flora with any colour in the pallette you ever saw. But the cherry on the top remains the thrill of rappelling down the long, almost vertical ice wall right after the pass. Our recent batch of trekkers lived the experience and survived to scream the tale!
Happiness is...the chill of ice in this long, summer's burn!!! π
First batch for the season successfully made it to Vasuki Tal - a stunning glacial lake at 4,800M, surrounded by the most awe-inspiring mountains in Garhwal Himalayas which our trekkers got magnificent views of owing to some magically clear skies!
Can you spot Shivling - the dramatic rock peak named for its peculiar shape - in the background? It's so close that it towers right beside you for the most part on the trail to Vasuki Tal!

A little snippet of a skier practicing the Snow Plough technique during our Basic Skiing Course in Gulmarg today!
The snow plough technique is essentially how you control your speed and brake as a beginner. You sit with your weight centred between the two skis, the nose of each ski pointed in toward each other in a wide A-frame, and gently push off with your poles.
The goal is to practice control. We donβt want speed right now- just enough to keep you moving slowly down the slope in a straight line.
Itβs okay to fall. You probably willβ¦ multiple times. And that's okay. It is how you pick up any sport, don't you agree? π
