Mandu Fort, also known as Mandavgarh, is a magnificent fortress located in the city of Mandu, in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. Perched atop a rocky outcrop in the Vindhya Range, the fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The history of Mandu Fort dates back to the 6th century when it was initially constructed by the Parmara rulers. Over the centuries, it underwent several expansions and renovations under different dynasties, including the Ghurids, the Khaljis, and the Mughals. However, its most significant period of development occurred during the reign of the Malwa Sultanate in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The fort complex covers a vast area and is home to numerous architectural wonders, including palaces, mosques, temples, and step wells. Some of the key attractions within Mandu Fort include:

Jahaz Mahal (Ship Palace): This iconic palace is named for its ship-like appearance, with long corridors resembling the decks of a ship. It was built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji and served as a harem for the royal women.

Hindola Mahal (Swinging Palace): This palace features sloping walls that give the illusion of swaying, hence its name. It is believed to have been used for court gatherings and royal functions.

Rupmati's Pavilion: Named after Rupmati, a Hindu singer and consort of Sultan Baz Bahadur, this pavilion offers stunning views of the Narmada Valley. It is said to have been Rupmati's residence and reflects the fusion of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles.

Baz Bahadur's Palace: This palace was built by Sultan Baz Bahadur and served as his royal residence. It showcases a blend of Islamic and Rajput architectural elements and is known for its intricately carved pillars and balconies.

Jami Masjid: Constructed in the 15th century, this grand mosque is one of the largest structures within Mandu Fort. It features an imposing domed entrance and a spacious courtyard for prayers.
Rewa Kund: This reservoir was built to supply water to the fort and its inhabitants. It is surrounded by lush gardens and serves as a popular spot for picnics and leisure activities.

Its a must visit fort while you are visiting Indore in Madhya Pradesh as this is just 2 hours drive with lovely accommodation by MP Tourism by the the Narmada ghats, its serene and pure.
