Karste khar is located near Sankoo in the Kargil district of the Ladakh. The village nearby goes by the name Karste Khar wherein there is a 7 meter rock-carved statue of Maitreya Buddha. The place offers a grand view of the surrounding valley and the landscape.

Tourist Places to Visit in Kargil Ladakh.

1) KARGIL MAIN STREET
is a small place in a remote part of the country. Hence it does not boast of luxurious shops or markets. Nevertheless, the Kargil main street is quite an interesting place to explore. There are small dry fruit shops, eateries etc in the lanes and by lanes of this charming little town. There are also souvenir shops where travellers can pick up a souvenir of their adventurous trip.
2) SURU VALLEY
Suru Valley is famous not just as the most fertile, but also as the most picturesque valley in all of Ladakh. The Suru River runs through the valley, which is dotted with scenic villages.
3) MUNSHI AZIZ BHAT MUSEUM OF CENTRAL ASIAN AND KARGIL TRADE ARTIFACTS
set up in the quaint town of Kargil aspires to keep a slice of history for posterity. The private museum run by two brothers Aijaz Hussain Munshi and Gulzar Hussain Munshi showcases its rare, unseen and antique artefacts related to the Central Asian Trade. Hubble Bubble or the hookah pipes from Yarkand, rugs from Kashgar, fabrics β dyed and raw silk from Khotan in China, natural dyes, costumes, jewellery, coins, shoes, utensils, ammunition and a few photographs are few out of the 100-plus objects that are exhibited.
4) APATI BUDDHA STATUE
Apati is a small village in the Ladakh some 16 km away from Kargil. The village was in possession Pakistan till 1971 when it was wrestled off by India in the 1971 war. The Maitreya Buddha at Apati is a large sculpture of Maitreya (Future Buddha) carved into the mountain side
5) MULBEKH MONASTERY
There are many things about Mulbekh Monastery that make it a popular tourist attraction in Kargil, one of which is its location.
6) DRASS WAR MEMORIAL
This is a must visit place in Kargil. Following the Kargil War, a war memorial was created in commemoration of the Indian soldiers.
