দীঘা হল ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর জেলার অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় সমুদ্রসৈকত।দীঘার প্রকৃত নাম বীরকুল যা অষ্টাদশ শতকের শেষভাগে আবিষ্কত হয়। ভাইসরয় ওয়ারেন হেস্টিংস এর লেখা একটি চিঠিতে এটিকে 'প্রাচ্যের ব্রাইটন' বলে উল্লিখিত দেখা যায়। ১৯২৩ সালে জন ফ্রাঙ্ক স্মিথ নামে এক ব্রিটিশ ভ্রমণকারী এখানকার সৌন্দর্যে মুগ্ধ হয়ে দীঘায় বসবাস শুরু করেন। তাঁর লেখালেখির ফলে দীঘা সম্পর্কে মানুষের আগ্রহ বৃদ্ধি পায়। ভারতের স্বাধীনতার পর তিনি পশ্চিমবঙ্গের তৎকালীন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বিধানচন্দ্র রায়কে উৎসাহ দেন এখানে পর্যটন সুবিধা বৃদ্ধি করতে।
