After a entire day of snowfall , the Lachungpa of Lachung step out for an evening walk before the sun sets on their tiny village.
Winter here is a way of life, and it does not slow down the pace of living inspite of it's cold attempt.

Thangu Valley is located at an altitude of 13000 ft. Thangu is about 30 kms North of Lachen. Since it is located at an high altitude, the place remains covered with snow for most of the time.
Especially from the month of October to March, the land is shrouded with the white blanket of snow.
Thangu is a small village where many visitors usually acclimatize before they proceed to Gurudongmar Tso, Muguthang, Jachu valley etc. It's alpine meadows are dotted with wooden houses and army camps. The calm water of Teesta flowing through the valley presents a fantastic contrast. Mostly inhabited by the nomadic tribes, the valley of thangu trespassed and crisscrossed by a number of streams and rivulets, the most important of them are Chopta chu, Thangu Chu and Lassie Chu.

The Alexander David Neel Cave (Deothang)must read......
The mystic French traveller, author and Tibetian scholar visited Sikkim in 1914 and made Lachen her home. She spent almost a year meditating in a cave at Deothang under the guidance of third Lachen Gomchen Rimpochela. It's a two hour Trek from kalep, take a walkthrough the picturesque valley with the view of snow capped mountains to reach the holy cave.

Gurudongmar Tso is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, laocated at an altitude of 5,430 m (17,800) ft in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is considered sacred by Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus. The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rimpoche -founder of Tibetian Buddhism who visited in the 8th Century.

Tibetian Sheep (Lhu) are found in Northern Sikkim. They produce excellent lustrous carpet quality wools which was early available in plenty in region bordering Tibet when the border was open. However with the closure of cross border trade since 1962, little Tibetian wool is now available. Tibetian Sheep are medium sized animals mostly with white black and brown face. They are shorn twice a year in April/may and Oct/Nov. Theirs numbers are gradually decreasing and they are in risk of being extinct from Northern Sikkim but the Government is always taking action to save this animal.

At a distance of 13 km from Lachung, Bhim Nala Falls is a gorgeous waterfalls situated at Khedum village near Lachung in North Sikkim. This is one of the tallest waterfalls in Sikkim and among the popular places to visit in Lachung.The water is falling from very high mountain and it looks like a three stage waterfall.

Chungthang is a town in North Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is situated at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers, which combine to form the Teesta River. Located at a distance of 95 kilometres at an elevation of 1,700 metres (5600 ft) from the state capital Gangtok, the Indian Army has a major forward base with a medical centre in Chungthang.
